CHARACTERS MAX BIRD-RIDNELL mike Mike has always been a dreamer. He was raised by his grandparents after losing his parents at a young age. He moved to Los Angeles when he was 20 years old, looking for success and a prosperous career as a pianist and composer but he didn t find what he was looking for. He started to work as a piano man in some small bars, hoping that an opportunity would come to play in some renowned orchestras, but this never happened. A few years passed and he got a day job as a clerk in a music store. He always kept contact with his grandmother, and he used to send her letters periodically explaining that everything was great in Los Angeles. He has a loner personality so he spends hours by himself playing piano at his house. He is somehow detached from reality since he still has the illusion of becoming a star. He has no wife, only a few friends and he doesn t talk much. He bought a small house in San Fernando Valley and he spends most of the time by himself there. He still keeps some of the awards and articles from the time he was in Salford, UK at his house. He was in love with a girl named Julia during high-school and they had a passionate relationship but they broke up when he left town. She has always had a very special place in his heart but they never kept in contact. He has never wanted to admit to himself nor to his friends that he didn t obtain the success he had hoped for. John, Julie and Mike were inseparable during high-school. Mike knows that he s not going to realize all of his dreams. He s now 40 years old. john John is an ordinary man. He grew up in a perfect family. As Mike, he wanted to become a great pianist and a composer but he didn t have the courage to leave his small town, so he was forced by his parents to go to college and find a regular job. He had a big admiration for Mike since he has always thought he was more talented than him and also had the will to leave Salford to follow his dreams. John was secretly in love with Julia while Mike and Julia were together. After Mike left, he pursued Julia and they got married. He made one his dreams come true! Nowadays, he has an ordinary life in Salford. He never left UK and this is his first time in Los Angeles. He works for a company in the automotive field as a salesman but he doesn t truly enjoy it. In fact, he s very proud of also being a music teacher since it keeps his passion for music alive. Julia and John were close to Mike s grandmother, before she passed away. She was the only person that had contact with Mike. NATHAN KERSHAW
