How does it work? The Daikin Altherma Hybrid Heat Pump technology is carefully controlled to deliver the most cost efficient operation at every outdoor temperature. Daikin Altherma hybrid heat pump in practice Case Study A 110-year old solid wall mid-terraced home heated by high temperature radiators was chosen for the UK study. The house has a floor area of 140m 2 with a design heat load of 9kW at a design temperature of -6 C. The total annual energy demand is approximately 18,500 kwh, with 16,300kWh for heating. Results from the trial showed that 13,060 kwh of space heating was delivered by the heat pump. Clearly even in older properties, the hybrid heat pump is able to supply most of the energy required for space heating. The measured seasonal efficiency for this house was 1.26 for space heating and 1.2 for space heating and hot water combined. This is about 30% higher than a modern gas condensing boiler, based on a seasonal efficiency of 90% for space heating.
