MT SHRM Scholarship Program CERTIFICATION & PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT Thank you for your interest in the MT SHRM Scholarship Program 1. Please read this application carefully and follow all instructions. Scholarships will be awarded as determined by the MT SHRM Scholarship Committee on behalf of MT SHRM and the Board of Directors. Who is Eligible? Current MT SHRM members 2 who have been chapter members for at least one year, are in a Human Resources-related position, and are pursuing HRCI certification; or educational developmental opportunities, college degree programs in Human Resources or related fields (undergraduate and graduate both full-time and part-time); or other special courses, seminars, conferences or programs that supplement human resources knowledge and education. What Scholarships are Awarded 3? The MT SHRM Scholarship Program offers the following scholarship opportunities and amounts per calendar year subject to the approved scholarship budget per MT SHRM Board of Directors. HRCI Certification Preparation Study Materials (SHRM Learning System) Maximum amount awarded is $500.00/per person (Scholarships given semi-annually; number of award recipients dependent on scholarship budget for current calendar year.) HRCI Certification Exam - PHR: $300/$250 SPHR and GPHR: $425/$375 Maximum amount awarded is dependent on which designation individual is pursuing, for SHRM National member/non member. (Scholarships given semi-annually; number of award recipients dependent on scholarship budget for current calendar year.) MT SHRM Leadership Development Program (LDP) Maximum amount awarded is $500.00 (Scholarships given annually; two award recipients per calendar year.) Other Professional Development Opportunities 1 5 years membership - $500 6 10 years membership - $1,000 Over 10 years membership - $1,500 (Scholarship given annually; one award recipient per calendar year.) 1 The Scholarship Program, including the award amounts, caps, types and number of awards given, may be modified or discontinued at any time for any reason at MT SHRM Board of Director s discretion. 2 Human Resource Professionals in transition must have been a member of MT SHRM for one year prior to their transition to be eligible for a scholarship. Student members are not eligible for MT SHRM scholarships but should apply to the SHRM Student Scholarship Program. 3 The dollar amount and number of scholarships awarded in any calendar year is based on the availability of funds budgeted for the year. Scholarships are limited to one scholarship award per person per calendar year up to a lifetime maximum of $1,500.00.
Page 2 MT SHRM Scholarship Program HRCI Certification Preparation Study Materials or HRCI Certification Exam Individuals applying for the HRCI Certification Preparation Study Materials (SHRM Learning System ) or the HRCI Certification Exam scholarships must be working towards certification as a Professional in Human Resources (PHR), a Global Professional in Human Resources (GPHR), or a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). Participation in MT SHRM sponsored study groups is not required. Scholarship funds awarded to individuals to purchase the SHRM Learning System or to pay for the exam fee must take the certification test during the test period for which they applied for the scholarship or no later than the next test period. Proof of test completion of HRCI exam is required. Individuals who have already completed a certification are not eligible for a scholarship to take additional certification courses or tests. Failure to take the HRCI exam within the stated timeframes may require full reimbursement to MT SHRM. MT SHRM Leadership Development Program The Leadership Development Program is sponsored by MT SHRM and Lipscomb University and is an HRCI accredited program that is designed especially for Human Resource Professionals. This12-week program typically meets once a week after work beginning in late January and concludes in April. Scholarships may be awarded to help offset the program fees. Proof of completion of the program is required. Individuals who have already attended the Leadership Development Program in the past are not eligible for a scholarship. Failure to complete the program may require full reimbursement to MT SHRM. Other Professional Development Opportunities Scholarships for Other Professional Development Opportunities include educational development opportunities, college degree programs in Human Resources or related fields (undergraduate and graduate both full-time and part-time), or other special courses, seminars, conferences or programs that supplement human resources knowledge and education (such as leadership development, HRCI accredited programs, seminars, or conferences, etc.), that will further the individual s career or development in human resources. Proof of grades, completion of program/course or attendance at the seminar, conference or program for which the scholarship was awarded is required. Failure to complete the educational program, developmental course, or attend the seminar, conference or program for which the scholarship was awarded may require full reimbursement to MT SHRM. How does the selection process work? Applications will be evaluated for scholarship awards based on the following criteria: 40% Work experience/progression in Human Resources-related field and future career plans 30% Volunteer/leadership contribution and activity within MT SHRM and/or SHRM (The evaluation committee may give consideration for volunteer activities within other organizations if deemed appropriate.) 30% Financial need
Page 3 MT SHRM Scholarship Program Am I required to have volunteer experience to apply for a scholarship? No. Experience as a chapter volunteer is preferred but not required. Consideration of volunteer activities within other organizations will be taken into account as deemed appropriate. Scholarship recipients with no MT SHRM volunteer experience will be expected to volunteer during the calendar year following their scholarship award. When can I apply? MT SHRM will endeavor to mail all scholarship checks within two weeks 4 of the award notification directly to the educational institution, organization or recipient, as applicable. Before a scholarship award is dispersed directly to an individual, MT SHRM must have the recipient s taxpayer ID on file for income tax purposes. 4 Exception: The MT SHRM Leadership Development Program Scholarship and Other Professional Development Opportunities Scholarship are awarded in the year application is made, but payment is not made until the following year in which the Leadership Development Program or Professional Development Opportunity occurs.
