(not as specified on individual scholarship applications)! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ NOTE: Scholarships that require proof of financial need (i.e. Copy of Current Income Tax Return, W2 Forms, Pay Stubs, etc.) should be submitted to Guidance, in a sealed envelope, with the respective scholarship application. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------- REMINDER: It is the applicant s responsibility to obtain Teacher Recommendations and attach them to the respective Scholarship Application Applications and recommendations must be returned to Guidance by the deadline date! Please give the teacher at least two (2) weeks notice. 1. The Ralph Verde Foundation Scholarship: a. Over $10,000 will be awarded to well-deserving high school seniors pursuing a college degree; b. This is a service-oriented not-for-profit organization dedicated to supporting academic achievement; c. Ralph Verde, during his senior year at Yale University, passed away of a terminal brain tumor. His belief was that education is the cherished means to any goal; d. Applicant must include a list of all honors/awards you have received and a list of all extracurricular activities involved in; e. Applicant must also complete three (3) personal statements: 1) You just walked into your freshman dorm room, introduce yourself to your roommate (limit your response to 150 words); 2) Briefly explain the reason(s) you have decided to attend college and what you hope to gain from the experience (limit your response to 150 words); and 3) It is the fall of your senior year in college and you were selected for an award. What is the award, who nominated or selected you, and why were you chosen? (limit your response to 300 words); f. DEADLINE: Applicants must apply online at www.theralphverdefoundation.org by February 1, 2016. 2. New Jersey District Key Club International Scholarships: a. Scholarships available range from $1,000 - $2,000 which will be awarded to members of the New Jersey District of Key Club who have exemplified incomparable dedication to serving the children of our world, and have been upholders of the objects of Key Club International during their high school years; b. Applicant must be a senior member of the Key Club; c. Applicant must include a brief description of projects you have participated in while a member of Key Club, and the role you played in each of the projects (requires signatures of faculty advisor and club president); d. If you performed service outside of Key Club, provide a summary of what you have done and the contact information of the coordinator of the service project; e. Applicant must include a brief description of your most important academic or extra-curricular achievement unrelated to Key Club; f. Applicant must write a two-page essay about your most memorable Key Club Service Project; g. Applicant must include two letters of recommendation; h. Applicant must include a completed Advisor Verification Form; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by February 16, 2016.
3. New Jersey Schoolwomen's Club Scholarship for Future Teachers: a. Three (3) $1,000 Scholarships will be awarded, and two (2) Educational Awards in the amount of $500, will be awarded to female graduates who intend to pursue a career in the field of education; b. The objectives of the club include promoting the interests of our profession, encouraging capable young women to become educators, and recognizing outstanding women in the field of education; c. Applicant must be a senior in a New Jersey high school and a New Jersey resident; d. Applicant should be planning to complete a professional program (minimum baccalaureate) leading to a degree and certification in the field of education; e. Applicant must submit evidence of outstanding academic achievement, community service and involvement, extra-curricular and academic activities, and honors and awards received; f. Applicant must submit an essay of 500 words or less for each of the three questions noted; g. Applicant must include letters of recommendation (at least two maximum of three no more than one personal; the other(s) should be school based); h. If available, applicant must provide verification of acceptance into a college or university program; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by February 19, 2016. 4. The Great Valu Markets Great Scholarships for Great Students Program: a. $1,000 Scholarships are available throughout the marketing area; b. Applicant must be a senior planning to enroll in a full-time course of study at an accredited two or four year college, university, or vocational/technical school in the United States; c. Applicant must have maintained at least a cumulative 3.0 gpa on a 4.0 scale; d. Applicant must be a full-time resident of the Great Valu marketing area; e. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by February 22, 2016. 5. Warren County School Counselors Association Scholarship: a. One (1) $250 Scholarship Available; b. Scholarship available to all graduating seniors who are pursuing a career in a counseling-related or helping field; c. Applicant must submit a 500 word maximum essay on Why you are choosing to enter a counselingrelated field and how you hope to have an impact. ; d. Applicant must not include any identifying information on the essay (including name or school); e. PHS may only nominate two (2) applicants from all applications received; f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 2, 2016. 6. The Red, White & Blue Club at the Highlands of Glenmoor Military Scholarship: a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship Available; b. Applicant must be a graduating high school senior in the year of the award; c. Applicant must have a parent, step-parent, grandparent or sibling who is serving or has served in the United States Military; d. Applicant must have a 2.5 gpa or better; e. Applicant must be planning to enroll in a two year college, four year college or university or trade school; f. Applicant must include a 300 word minimum essay on How your family member, who served in the military, has influenced you in a positive way ; g. Applicant must attach transcript; h. Recipient will be selected by a committee of Highland s Residents; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be returned to Guidance by March 4, 2016. 7. Lopatcong Education Association Academic Achievement Award: a. Number of Scholarships and Amount of Scholarships to be determined; b. Applicant must be a graduate of Lopatcong Middle School and a present resident of Lopatcong Township; c. Applicant must be planning to attend an institution beyond high school (college, technical school, or trade school);
d. Applicant must attach a resume including the following information: 1. Extra-Curricular Activities: e.g. clubs, committees, sports, music, employment, etc. Indicate your involvement with the activity and list the advisor's name; 2. Citizenship: Service to the community, such as church work or volunteer work; 3. Reasons for choosing your profession; 4. Reasons for applying for financial aid; 5. Any other information you wish the committee to consider. e. Applicant must attach a transcript and letters of recommendation; f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 4, 2016. 8. Mayflower Scholarship (The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of New Jersey): a. Sponsored by The Society of Mayflower Descendants in the State of New Jersey, this scholarship has been established to recognize deserving young people who have demonstrated an active interest in pursuing a higher education related to United States History, which will heighten their awareness of self-governance and enable them to become better prepared for life and citizenship; b. PHS may nominate only one applicant for this scholarship; c. One (1) $1,620 Scholarship Available; d. Applicant must be a resident of New Jersey and graduate in the upper fourth of the school s class (or have SAT or ACT total scores at or above the 75 th percentile) and enter a four (4) year college or university or a two-year community college (as part of a four-year academic plan); e. Applicant MUST include a typed document of responses to the seven items on the bottom of the application form (list each on a separate line: High School Awards and Honors; High School Activities, exclusive of Community Service; Community Service, exclusive of High School Activities; Employment History, with most recent first; and Colleges to which you are applying; f. Applicant must also include an essay, not to exceed 500 words, summarizing your academic plans for at least the next four years and how you see those activities in light of your past interest and future goals, g. Applicant must include a short essay addressing the role of history in the nominee s life: We are told that those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Based on your previous essay above cite two examples where a knowledge of history has either led you to where you are now or will help you avoid repeating past mistakes in your field once your future goals have been reached; h. Applicant must include an official copy of the applicant s notification of SAT or ACT scores which must include the writing test; i. Applicant MUST include a signed Academic Recommendation Form completed by a teacher, guidance counselor or principal familiar with the nominee s high school work (nominator may also include a letter of recommendation if they choose); j. Applicant MUST submit a signed Character Reference Form completed by an individual not a member of the family to whom the nominee is well-known (nominator may also include a letter of recommendation if they choose); k. PHS will select the applicant to be submitted to the committee; l. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 4, 2016. 9. Youth Citizenship Award (Sponsored by Soroptimist International of Hackettstown, NJ): a. Soroptimist International s mission is to make a difference for women through volunteer service to the community; b. This award is given by the Hackettstown club in recognition of the outstanding contributions made by young people to school and community; c. This award is not a scholarship, but an award of merit to be used at the discretion of the recipient in any manner that will best further his/her aims and purposes; d. Applicant (male or female) must be in the last year of a public or private high school and must demonstrate service, dependability, sincerity, integrity, and leadership; e. Applicant must include two letters of reference from a non-relative who is a teacher, counselor or member of the community; f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 7, 2016.
10. Don Cole Memorial Scholarship - The American Legion: a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship available; b. Applicant must possess a good grade point average and class standing; c. Applicant must possess good ethical and moral character traits; d. Applicant must possess leadership qualities; e. Applicant may include any other information you deem might be necessary for the committee to review; f. Applicant must write a 400-word essay entitled What the Donald Cole Scholarship Means to Me ; e. Applicant must provide name and service information of veteran ancestor/relative of student, and must attach copy of DD214 discharge form; f Applicant must attach copy of W2 forms for parents/guardians; g. Finalists will be required to attend a Committee Meeting, where they will be interviewed by members of the Selection Committee; h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 8, 2016. 11. Phillipsburg Education Foundation 4 Year College or University Scholarship: a. Four (4) $2,000 Scholarships Available; b. Applicant must be planning to go directly from PHS to a four-year college or university to pursue a post-secondary education; c. Application must be signed and dated by both the applicant and the parent/guardian; d. Applicant must submit a list of college or universities to which you have applied, any scholarships and/or honors distinctions you were awarded, and all extra-curricular activities; e. Applicant must write about any special contributions you have made to your school and/or community about which you are especially proud; f. Applicant must also include work experience; your plans for the future, and explain any special circumstances that college may present to you about which the committee should be aware; g. Applicant must include SAT or ACT scores; h. Applicant must attach three (3) letters of recommendation (one from a Guidance Counselor, Teacher, and Non-Family Member or another Teacher familiar with the applicant s character; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 14, 2016. 12. Phillipsburg Education Foundation 2 Year Community College/Technical School Scholarship: a. Four (4) $500 Grants Available; b. Applicant must be planning to go directly from PHS to a two-year college or a technical school to pursue a post-secondary education; c. Application must be signed and dated by both the applicant and the parent/guardian; d. Applicant must submit a list of college and/or technical schools to which you have applied, any scholarships and/or honors distinctions you were awarded, and student activities; e. Applicant must also include work experience; f. Applicant must attach a letter of recommendation from your Guidance Counselor; g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 14, 2016. 13. Phillipsburg Area Chapter 4704 AARP Scholarship: a. Six (6) $500 Scholarships Available Payable after proof of successful completion of the first semester; b. For any senior furthering his/her education; c. Applicant MUST write several paragraphs about his/her family and goals; d. Applicant must attach an list of activities involved in; e. Applicant must attach list of honors/awards received; f. Applicant must attach two recommendations/character references; g. Applicant must attach a copy of your SAT Score Report; h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 15, 2016.
14. American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) North Jersey Branch Scholarship: a. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships will be available to graduating high school seniors intending to pursue a college career in Civil Engineering; b. Applicant must reside in the North Jersey Branch jurisdiction (Sussex, Warren, Morris, Passaic, Bergen, Essex, Union or Hudson Counties); c. Applicant must have a minimum of 3.0 (out of 4.0) minimum gpa; d. Applicant must attach 1 copy of official SAT scores; e. Applicant must have two (2) letters of recommendation, not to be identical to college application letters/essays; f. Applicant must submit a personal statement, a maximum of 500 words, on the topic provided; g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 15, 2016. 15. Gregory W. Clymer Memorial Scholarship: a. One (1) Scholarship at $1,000 payable after proof of enrollment; b. Applicant must demonstrate a compassionate, kind, and caring attitude and concern for others; c. Applicant must show participation in community service and/or extracurricular activities; d. Applicant must have a 4.5 gpa on a 6.0 scale; e. Applicant must be planning to attend an accredited post-secondary educational program; f. Applicant must complete application and submit two (2) letters of recommendation (preferably from a teacher, employer, clergyman, or other prominent member of the community); g. Financial need is a consideration; h. Applicant must attach W2 forms; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 21, 2016. 16. Pohatcong Township PTA Scholarship: a. Three (3) $750 Scholarships; b. Scholarship awarded to students who have shown outstanding achievement in their education as well as the community in which they live; c. Applicant must be a graduate from Pohatcong Township School; d. Applicant must attach an essay telling how you feel this scholarship will help you. In addition, please provide any information you feel the committee should know as to why you should receive this award (i.e. financial, medical or personal); e. Applicant must attach two (2) recommendations/character references; f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 21, 2016. 17. Water Resources Association of the Delaware River Basin John L. Buzzi Memorial Scholarship Fund: a. $1,000 Scholarship available for a qualified high school senior that is interested in or desires a career in a water resources-related field; b. Applicant must be accepted at a properly accredited junior college, college or university for the fall semester of 2015, and must reside within the Delaware River Basin watershed; c. Applicant must have an interest in issues related to water resources; d. Scholarship will be awarded to a student qualified by academic performance, who exhibits an interest in a water resource and environmental issue(s) and solutions and is also involved in the community; e. Measures of academic performance include a respectable cumulative grade average for grades ten through twelve and a statement of career goals; f. Job history or volunteer information related to a water resources or environmental field will also be considered; g. Measures of community involvement include participation in activities that are of benefit to the community at-large; h. Applicants should provide a summary of their academic interests and achievements, job and volunteer history, extracurricular and community activities, and career goals as they relate to the above selection criteria (summaries should be limited to about 700 words); i. Applicant must submit two letters of reference (preferably from teachers, community leaders, mentors and/or counselors); j. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 21, 2016.
18. BEST (Building Education Support Teams), Inc. Scholarship: a. This scholarship is awarded to need-based students of diverse backgrounds with an interest in continuing his/her education in various fields such as, but not limited to, Education, Business, Health Care, and Criminal Justice; b. Applicant must maintain a minimum 2.8 gpa while attending college; c. The condition of this award is that upon college graduation, you will seek and accept, if offered, employment within your community in your chosen college career field for a minimum of two (2) years; d. Applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation (from a teacher or other professional who is familiar with you and/or your work); e. Applicant must submit proof of enrollment or letter of acceptance from a post-secondary institution; f. Applicant must submit an essay of 250 words specifying your interests and goals or your career choice; g. Applicant must submit proof of financial need copies of parent or guardian W-2, 1099 or current tax forms are required; h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by March 23, 2016. 19. Firth Youth Center Scholarship Award: a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship available; b. Applicant must be planning to attend a two- or four-year college, vocational school, business school, or any other accredited post-secondary education; c. Applicant must include a list of your most important accomplishments (including class or school activities and community activities; d. Applicant must attach a short essay on your educational goals (future employment, college major, professional aspirations); e. Applicant must identify your Firth Youth Center Participation and/or Volunteer Activities During Your Lifetime at the Center (Consideration will be given first to Firth Youth Center participants and volunteers); f. Applicant must attach two (2) Letters of Recommendation (one from a high school teacher and one from a community member who knows you well {preferably a supervisor from your community volunteer or other activities} who IS NOT a family member; g. Applicant must identify the education institution you are planning to attend; h. Scholarship will be awarded directly to the student upon successful completion of the first semester; i. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 1, 2016. 20. The 200 Club of Warren County Scholarship: a. $500 Scholarships Available to students scheduled to graduate in June 2016; b. Applicant must have a parent involved in public safety; c. Applicants' parent may be either a Police Officer (including State Police, Sheriff's Department, Corrections Officer), Firefighter, or Emergency Medical Technician (the public safety person may be retired); d. Applicant must include a 500 word or less essay on What does a career in public safety mean to you ; e. DEADLINE: Applications must be submitted to Guidance by April 4, 2016. 21. PHS Class of 1967 Scholarship: a. Two (2) $1,000 Scholarships Available; b. Applicant must be planning to further their education at a four-year or two-year institution; c. Applicant must be in the top 25% of the graduating class; d. This scholarship will be awarded after recipient has provided written confirmation of acceptance and first payment has been made to school of choice; e. Scholarship will be based on academics and activities, both in and out of school. In addition, leadership roles and financial need will also be considered; f. Applicant MUST include an essay stating why this scholarship is important to them, and why they want to continue their education; g. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 15, 2016.
22. Greenwich Township Education Association Scholarship: a. Three (3) Scholarships at $500 (awarded to students from PHS or Warren Tech); b. Applicant must be a graduate of Stewartsville Middle School; c. Applicant must plan to further his/her education at a four-year, two-year, trade, technical, nursing school, etc.; d. Scholarship is based on financial need, academic achievement, activities/involvements and recommendations; e. Applicant must attach two (2) Recommendations/Character References; f. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by April 18, 2016. 23. Disabled American Veterans Charles Kosmutza Scholarship Fund: a. Three (3) $1,000 Scholarships Available to high school seniors pursuing post high school education; b. Applicant must be a resident of New Jersey; c. Applicant must be a natural or adopted descendant of a member of the DAVNJ; d. Descendant meaning the son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, niece, nephew, cousin of DAV veteran; e. Applicant must submit an essay of no more than 500 words on What would you do to make this country more secured from ISIS? ; f. Applications and essays must be typed or printed legibly, signed and dated; g. Applicant must provide proof of relationship to the Veteran in this organization; h. DEADLINE: Applications must be received by Guidance by May 9, 2016. 24. Aspiring Fashion Professional Scholarship Program: a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded; b. Applicant must be a high school senior intending to pursue a fashion related field at an accredited post-secondary school or college; c. Applicant must demonstrate record of academic success; d. Applicant must have a passion and drive for a fashion related career; including, but not limited to Fashion Design, Fashion Merchandising, Fashion Marketing, Fashion Management, and Fashion Retailing; e. Applicant must submit an original 500-1000 word essay on What specific skill do you most want to develop? (all essays will be subject to review for plagiarism and/or fraud); f. Applicant must provide proof of college/school acceptance and GPA verification before scholarship funds will be disbursed; g. DEADLINE: Applicants must apply online at www.fashion-schools.org by June 1, 2016. 25. Aspiring Animation Professional Scholarship Program: a. One (1) $1,000 Scholarship will be awarded; b. Applicant must intend to pursue an animation related field at an accredited post-secondary school or college; c. Applicant must have a demonstrable record of academic success; d. Applicant must have a passion and drive for an animation and/or design related career; e. Applicant must submit an original 500-1000 word essay on What specific skill do you most want to develop? (all essays will be subject to review for plagiarism and/or fraud); f. Applicant must provide proof of college/school acceptance and GPA verification before scholarship funds will be disbursed; g. 26. The 2016 Aspiring Nurse Scholarship: a. Nursing Schools Almanac is proud to announce the availability of a $1,000 scholarship to a nurse who best demonstrates: a track record of academic excellence, particularly in science and mathematics; and: a passion for the nursing profession and the overall field of healthcare; b. This scholarship is open to all US high school seniors who plan to pursue college education in nursing, including LPN/LVN, AND and BSN programs; c. Applicant must be in good academic standing and on track to graduate from high school at the conclusion of the 2015-2016 academic year; d.
