1.0 Background This document serves as a sample Market-IP analysis report. It proposes to provide the reader with information relating to the products in the market and in general to patent landscape analysis. This summary incorporates analysis techniques well known in this kind of study. Landscape analysis techniques proprietary to MaxVal are, however not included in this summary. 1.1 Scope of the Assignment The project involved a detailed time line analysis of patent filing activities and product development segments across various companies using wireless technologies in medical devices. This report attempts to: Identify relevant patent documents in medical devices field employing wireless technology, and conducting a competitive patent landscape analysis Identify companies and products under all categories (such as cardiac, diabetes, etc.,) that are available in the market and under development possessing wireless technologies Identify emerging trends in wireless medical technology space 1.2 Process adopted This project involved identification of relevant patent documents in medical devices employing wireless technologies resulting in about 5550 patents/applications. The appropriate databases were investigated for any changes in assignment to obtain an updated set of assignees. These patents/applications were further analyzed to identify commercially active patents, general filing trends for the period 2000-2010 and filing trends of top assignees for the period 1998-2010. Subsequently, extensive Web search was conducted to identify products employing wireless technologies in therapeutic applications across all categories viz. cardiac, diabetes, pulmonary management, hypertension, and physiological measurement such as temperature, fitness, blood oxygen and their marketing status (FDA approved, or under development). P a g e 1

A focused search was also conducted to identify recent research activities at universities/ institutions in this space. Research papers, publications, journals and recently filed IP (2007 onwards) were scrutinized to identify emerging technologies.
