Microsoft Home User Program VWCC faculty and staff can now get Office 2013 for their home computer. Office 2013 is only compatible with Windows 7 and Windows 8. It will not run on Windows XP or Windows Vista. Microsoft has changed the home user program and is now charging $9.95 per copy to download the complete version of Office 2013, which includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, Access, Publisher, InfoPath and a new program called Lync that is advertised as a unified communication platform. The $9.95 gives you a license to install Microsoft Office on one home computer, which is different from Office 2010 where the license allowed you to load Office 2010 on one desktop computer plus one portable computer. For an additional $13.99, you can get a backup DVD of Office 2013, which we highly recommend. This is still an excellent deal and is only available to VWCC faculty and staff, not to students. The retail price of this package is $399.99. Additionally you have the option to purchase Language packs for Office 2013 at $9.95 each, Microsoft Visio for $9.95 and the Mac version of Office 2011, which includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, for $9.95. Special note on Office 2013: Microsoft is moving to a subscription model for some of their software. There is a new program called Office 365, which is the subscription model of Office 2013. Currently there is no employee deal for Office 365, but it may be a better option for some people, since it includes licenses for up to 5 computers. The cost of Office 365 is $99.99 per year or $9.99 per month, which includes free upgrades, 20 GB additional cloud storage and Office on Demand, a streaming-based version of Office that downloads on demand, and then disappears from the computer when you close the program.
