Learn about high quality, free or low-cost preschool opportunities for qualifying families in the City of Alexandria

HOW IT WORKS Exciting activities are underway in Alexandria to help parents learn about free and low-cost preschool opportunities. Many of these programs are made possible by grants that come from federal, state, and local resources. What s even more exciting is the promise that preschool providers are making to work together to ensure children who need services can access them. This brochure is the first of many steps we anticipate Children who come to school healthy and ready to learn are more likely to succeed in school and life. taking to help parents identify and access services more easily. To help qualifying families connect to a variety of high quality, free or low-cost early care & education opportunities, we have listed the Virginia Preschool Initiative, Head Start, and Early Head Start programs available in Alexandria. All of the programs have earned independent quality ratings from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and/or Virginia s Quality Rating and Improvement System (QRIS). To help you decide which program best fits your family s needs, additional details are provided, including location, hours of operation, and more. Please be aware that each program has different eligibility guidelines based on income, family size, and additional criteria. Each provider is knowledgeable about these requirements and can help you figure out whether you qualify, or refer you to another program if appropriate. Please call the contact person listed with any questions about how to register your child. All of the providers welcome your interest and want to help more children get the early education needed to support school readiness.
