ANNUAL REPORT 2014-2015 Introduction: The Society of Dyers and Colourists, headquartered in UK is a 150-year-old educational charity, and the world s foremost knowledge platform dedicated to progressing knowledge in the field of colour. The Society of Dyers and Colourists Educational Charity (SDC EC) was established in 2006 to serve the textile and colouration industry in India. Office-Bearers and Trustees: The Board of Trustees for the year 2014-2015 comprised of Mr. Ullhas Nimkar (CCol FSDC), Mr. Dilip Raghavan, Mr. Vijay Sane (CCol FSDC), Dr Ela Dedhia, Mr. S. Periasamy, Mr. Anjani Prasad (CCol FSDC), Dr Prakash Bhate (CCol FSDC), Mr. Ashok Dodhia, Mrs. Suman Mundkur, Mr. V.R. Sai Ganesh, Mr. Sumit Gupta (ASDC) and Dr Sanjiv Kamat (CCol FSDC), (Nominee of the Settlor to the SDC EC Trustee Board). Amongst them the elected Office-Bearers were Mr. Ullhas Nimkar (Hon. Chairman), Mr. Dilip Raghavan (Hon. Secretary) and Mr. Vijay Sane (Hon. Treasurer). The Mumbai Chapter comprised of Mr. V R Sai Ganesh (Hon. Chairman), Mr. Sumit Gupta (Hon. Secretary) and Mr. Sachin Pulsay (Hon. Vice-Chairman) and Mrs. Lipika Nair (Hon. Treasurer) under whose aegis various events for members and the general industry were conducted through the year. Resignations and New Trustees: For the period 2013-2014, the resignation of Mr. Dilip Gianchandani, Mr. Vilas Gupte, and Mr. Sachin Pulsay were received and accepted. Mr Vijay Sane was appointed as a Hon. Treasurer. Membership: The effort to retain existing members and recruit new members, which has been ongoing for many years since inception, continues to be pursued and implemented. In 2014-2015, a total of 47 students and professionals were trained for Colour Management Modules, held in Premier Colour Scan, DyStar India Private Limited and Intertek Laboratories India private limited with the involvement of five trainers (Mr. Dakshesh Desai, Mrs Lipika Nair, Mrs Ramya Kandiyoor, Dr Ruma Chakrabarti (ASDC) and Mr Yogesh Gaikwad. Events: There were a number of events conducted in the form of conference, seminars, lectures and competitions held on a variety of subjects across various locations by distinguished speakers. Lecture : Certifications in Organic Textile and Sustainable Processing by Mr. Sumit Gupta, ASDC On Thursday, 5 th February 2015 at the School of Textile Technology, MPSTME MPTP Campus Shirpur 7. Half Day Seminar on Colour Index, Environmental Solutions and Challenges Faced by Colourant Industry On Monday, 23 rd February, 2015 at Vapi Industries Association All of the events were well-attended by members and representatives from amongst students and/or the industry, as the case might be, and were well appreciated as a platform for knowledge. Competitions: 1. 5th National Students Competition Young Talent search 2015 Theme: Innovations in colour and its use On 27 th March, 2015 at The Textiles Committee, Mumbai. The competition attracted 21 entries in Colouration and Fashion categories. We received from Dhule, Jalandhar, Kolkata, Mumbai, Baroda and Coimbatore. 6 entries from Colouration and 5 entries from Fashion were shortlisted. The winners were declared from both categories separately. This Competition was sponsored by Fibre2Fashion Ltd., Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS), TANUL Laboratories (India) Pvt. Ltd. 2. National Design Competition 2014: Theme: Material World On 24 th August 2014 at Hotel Hilton International, Andheri The competition attracted a great response with 45 entries registering from different 10 colleges/institutes from Delhi, Baroda, Mumbai, Shirpur, Pune, Tirupur, Coimbatore, Bangalore and Jaipur. 3. National Conference 2014: Theme: Sustainable Innovations in Colouration On Friday, 6 th June 2014 at Textiles Committee, Prabhadevi, Mumbai 3 P a g e
The theme of the conference was Sustainable Innovations in Colouration'. Over 150 delegates from Textile, Dyes & Chemicals and the Fashion industry attended the event. Faculty and students from Textile and Fashion institutes were also present. 4. 11th International Conference: Theme: Innovations for Sustainable Textile Production Connecting the Dots On Friday, 20 th February 2015 at The Lalit, Mumbai The conference was supported by Archroma India Pvt. Ltd., Colourtex Industries Ltd., Jay Chemical Industries Ltd., DyStar India Pvt Ltd., Britacel Silicones Ltd., Bureau Veritas Consumer Products Services (India) Pvt. Ltd, CU Inspections & Certifications India Pvt. Ltd, Novozymes South Asia Pvt. Ltd, Levi Strauss & Co., Mesdan S.P.A., Europrogetti S. R. l., CHT (India) Pvt. Ltd. The Conference was wellattended by Over 200 delegates from Brands, Process houses, retailers and industries from India, UK, Sri Lanka attended the conference. Qualifications: One of the important tasks undertaken by the SDC is to offer qualifications to the academia and industry in the form of Chartered Colourist (CCol), besides its Fellowship (FSDC) and Associateship (ASDC). These are wellaccepted qualifications in the coloration and textile industry globally, and help supplement the existing formal education system. The SDC EC continues to reach out to educational institutions and industry players across the country to promote these qualifications. Following were the recipients of these qualifications. 1. Dr. Javed Shaikh ASDC Medals: SDC UK also acknowledges the contributions of various individuals towards the advancement of colour, and towards service to SDC itself by way of its prestigious medals. The recipients of these medals for this year were: 1. Dr. Ram Sabnis Gold Medal for his for outstanding service to the coloration industry. 2. Prof. Dr. RajendraKumar Anayath Silver Medal for his dedicated contribution to education in the field of printing, graphic arts and media industries. 4 P a g e
Finances: The audited balance sheet for the year 2014-2015 will be circulated by first week of June 2015. Thus ends the Annual Report of SDC EC for 2014-2015. We are optimistic that with active member participation, and with the leadership of the Board of Trustees and well-wishers of SDC EC, we will continue to serve our members and the industry to the best of our ability in the coming months as well.
