THE NTC EXPERIENCE for parents of prospective students www.ntc.edu

Welcome Congratulations on being the proud parent of a soon-to-be college student. We know your son or daughter has many educational options and we are pleased you re considering making Northcentral Technical College (NTC) the next stop on their learning journey. At NTC, we understand that you want what s best for your child. That s what we want, too. That s why we offer over 170 educational options with seamless transfer to four-year colleges and universities. And, with two-thirds of the fastest growing occupations requiring a technical college education, you can see why brighter futures start here. As the mother of a technical college graduate, I know you likely have many questions. This guide is designed to introduce you to the College and provide you with the resources needed to begin this important step in your child s life. I d also encourage you to set up a meeting with one of our Career Coaches. The Career Coaches are committed to helping students - and their parents - navigate the higher education decision process and plan for the future. We hope to see you on campus. All the best, Lori Weyers President

Helping Your Son or Daughter Make a Wise College Decision Start by having a conversation with your child about their college and career goals. 1. What are your interests? 2. What skills do you have? 3. What are your future goals? Undecided? We can help! Whether your son/daughter is still searching for the right career path or simply looking to get started with General Education courses, we can help them get started on the path to success. NTC is not only the most affordable option in the area per credit, but the College also offers multiple locations close to home. NTC programs easily transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Let an NTC Career Coach who is specially trained in working with students throughout the career decision-making process help your son or daughter find a program that matches his or her interests and then navigate the NTC admissions process. With our Affordable Tuition, beginning at NTC just makes sense. Type of College Average Cost/Year NTC $3775.50 2-Year UW $5115.16 4-Year UW $8674.25 Private $26,526.00 Private For Profit $32,253.50 All costs are tuition only and do not include applicable fees. NTC rate is based on 15 credits/ semester for 2014-15. UW costs courtesy of 2013-14 UW System Schedule of Student Fees. Private costs courtesy of Wisconsin Association of Independent Colleges & Universities for 2011-12. Private for profit costs courtesy of 2013 Wisconsin Directory of Private Post Secondary Schools.

NTC Program Pathways NTC s Career Pathways provide a framework for exploring college and career options. All of the college s program and certificate offerings are grouped into 17 Career Clusters, with each cluster providing information on available careers, relevant programs, job placement and transfer information all in one location. Exploring the Career Pathways with your son or daughter can help narrow down career choices and find the programs at NTC that provide the best match. Visit www.ntc.edu/pathways to begin exploring. NTC offers associate degrees, which are two-year programs that combine technical skills with general education such as math, communications and social sciences for a comprehensive educational experience, along with one- and two-year technical diplomas that provide a concentrated focus on hands-on learning of occupational skills targeting the specific abilities needed to be competitive in today s workforce. For more information or to find out how the programs listed on the next page may be offered online, through our Virtual College or at one of our six campus locations visit www.ntc.edu/programs-courses. With our Exceptional Job Placement, we put the hire in higher education. 86 percent of our graduates are employed within six months of graduation. In fact, many students get jobs even before they ve crossed our graduation stage. Combine that with an average starting salary approaching $35,000 and you can see we re not the tech you remember. 2013 Average Annual Salary Accounting $30,645 Accounting Assistant $28,076 Administrative Professional $26,321 Automotive Technician $28,427 Automotive Technology $33,098 Business Management $27,996 Criminal Justice Academy 2 $37,161 Criminal Justice Law Enforcement 2 $31,097 Dairy Science $29,337 Dental Assistant $27,407 Dental Hygienist $43,264 Early Childhood Education $20,398 Electromechanical Technology $35,729 Emergency Medical Technician $27,616 Health Care Business Services $25,426 Human Services Programs $28,306 Human Services -AODA $30,555 IT Computer Support Specialist $33,084 IT Network Specialist $37,914 IT Software Developer $34,760 Machine Tool Operator $30,118 Machine Tooling Technics $39,715 ² Many graduates seeking municipal jobs can take six-18 months to be processed for employment eligibility due to substantial testing and background checks. ³ Some graduates from this program volunteer their services and do not receive a salary, while others are paid on a per call basis. Some graduates provide a salary that is a combination of their EMT wage and a wage from their primary occupation. 4 Because many graduates were (a) previously employed as supervisors, (b) employed in the related field for several years, or (c) included overtime pay as part of the annual salary provided, average salaries shown may be higher than a typical entry-level wage. 86 PERCENT OF NTC GRADS GET JOBS WITHIN 6 MONTHS OF GRADUATING Manufacturing Electronics Maintenance $33,374 Mechanical Design Technician $36,914 Medical Assistant $26,495 Medical Coding Specialist $25,419 Medical Laboratory Technician $38,307 Nursing-Associate Degree $47,489 Nursing Assistant 4 $21,384 Office Assistant $24,297 Paramedic Technician 3 $39,971 Practical Nursing 4 $34,388 Radiography $39,641 Refrigeration, Air Cond & Heating Service $33,345 Supervisory Management 4 $34,023 Surgical Technologist $33,062 Welding 4 $41,948 Wood Processes $38,046 College-wide $32,655

Your child can get started on their education in high school with Dual Credit. Dual Credit is an arrangement where high school students earn both high school and college credit. Students can earn credit now and save money for later by beginning their coursework in high school. Technical college courses are taught in the high school by college certified high school instructors at no cost to the student or the high school. See how dual credit and transfer after NTC works Student A Josh completes Introduction to Business (3 credits) and Marketing Principles (3 credits) at D.C. Everest High School. After graduating from D.C. Everest he then transfers into NTC s Marketing program with two courses completed, saving nearly $800. He then transfers his Marketing Associate Degree from NTC to UW-Stout for a bachelor s degree in Business Administration with junior status. Student B Karen completes ECE Foundations (3 credits) at Antigo High School. or She can transfer directly to UW-La Crosse (UW-L) and receive a transfer credit for Introduction to Early Childhood Education, saving over $1,000 in tuition costs. She can transfer directly to NTC and receive transfer credit for ECE Foundations in the ECE program, saving approximately $401.34 in tuition, fees and textbook costs before transferring to UW-Stevens Point.
