Physical Education: Single Performance National 5

This presentation will help you with your single performance.

Your single performance is out of 60 marks and will be added to your mark out of 40 for the portfolio booklet. This overall mark out of 100 will give you a National 5 A, B, C or D.

You must carry out a single performance, the context for which must be challenging, competitive and/or demanding.

You will need to choose an Activity and a Role within that activity. Think about which Activity you know the most about. This will usually be an activity you have participated in during the s3 and s4 course. Futsal, Badminton, Basketball, Gymnastics, Volleyball, Climbing etc. Write down this activity now on the outside of your booklet.

Think about what your Role you will perform within your activity. In a team activity you will have a specific role in an individual activity you will be a single performer. Futsal Goalkeeper Gymnastics Single Performer Basketball Guard Badminton Single Performer Volleyball Setter Write this down now on the outside of your booklet.

1) Planning and Preparation (10 marks) 2) Performance (40 marks) 3) Evaluation (10 marks)

1(a) Describe two personal challenges you feel you need to plan and prepare for in order to carry out this demanding, single performance. (2 marks) Challenges have to come from two different factor areas.

Mental: Concentration, Level of Arousal, Motivation, Decision Making, Problem Solving, Attention Span, Focus of Attention, Mental Toughness, Processing Information, Anticipation, Cue Recognition, Perception Emotional: Happiness/sadness, Anger, Fear, Trust, Surprise Social Group Dynamics, Cultural/Societal issues, Environmental issues Physical Fitness (physical and skill related), Skills, Tactics/composition

Mental I need to stay concentrated on what I am going to be doing. I make bad decisions when I have the ball. I can t control my level of arousal and perform to the best of my ability.

Emotional I struggle to control my anger when referees decisions go against me. I fear performing in front of an audience. I find it difficult to trust my team mates in my team to work to the best of their ability.

Social I struggle to follow the written rules of Futsal and accept the referees decisions. I find it hard to demonstrate respect for my opponents if they start to irritate me. I find it difficult to stick to my role in Basketball.

Physical I can t cope with my opponent in badminton who I have played before that has a fast smash. I don t have much power in my legs to help me climb over an overhang in climbing. My reaction time is slow trying to get a rebound in basketball.

From the four factors can you think of any personal challenges? (think about the activity you have chosen and your role within that activity) Complete 1(a) now. This questions asks you to outline two personal challenges you will need to plan and prepare for in your single performance. (1 mark for each)

1(b) Explain why these challenges are relevant to you and this demanding, single performance. (4 marks) This questions asks you to write about why these challenges are specific to your single performance. (2 marks for each) For example: Challenge: I can t cope with my opponent in badminton who I have played before that has a fast smash. My opponent has a fast smash that I can t cope with. This is a challenge because I will not be able to return with an attacking shot after he smashes the shuttle. Complete 1(b) now.

1(c) Describe how you plan to prepare yourself to meet these challenges. (2 marks) This questions asks you to write about how to plan to overcome your challenges. (1 mark for each) For example: Challenge: I can t cope with my opponent in badminton who I have played before that has a fast smash. I plan to play drop shots to stop my opponent playing smashes. Complete 1(c) now.

1(d) Carry out an appropriate warm-up routine which is specific to your physical activity prior to beginning your performance. (2 marks) This questions asks you to describe your warm-up. Think about your activity and what your role involves. Your teacher will observe your warm up as part of your single performance and award you a mark out of 2. Complete 1(d) now.

Section 2 will be marked by your teacher in your single performance and is out of 40 marks. 8 marks for repertoire of skills 8 marks for control and fluency 8 marks for decision making 8 marks for execution of decisions 4 marks for etiquette 4 marks for emotion

8 marks for repertoire of skills (how many and how well you perform your skills)

8 marks for control and fluency (how you control your skills and body and how you move from one skill to the next)

8 marks for decision making (how you make the decisions and do you do them at the right time)

8 marks for execution of decisions (how well you carry out your decisions)

4 marks for etiquette (how you follow the rules and regulations of your activity)

4 marks for emotion (how you control your feelings)

3(a) Evaluate your performance in relation to planning and preparation for the two challenges previously described in 1(a) and 1(c). 8 marks This questions asks you to write about how well your plan to overcome your two challenges worked in relation to your single performance. (4 marks for each) Evaluations can be a combination of positive and negative statemtemts. Read your response to questions 1(a) and 1(c) to help you.

For example: Challenge: I can t cope with my opponent in badminton who I have played before that has a fast smash. I planned to play drop shots to stop my opponent playing smashes. I feel this tactic worked as my opponent did not win very many shots with smashes. I forced my opponent to play net shots and this allowed me more opportunity to hold longer rallies and ultimately win more points. During the game my opponent worked out my tactic so he was ready for net shots and I could not use the space at the front of the court to win points as he was usually ready for my drop shots. Complete 3(a) now.

3(b) Evaluate your overall performance. (2 marks 1 mark for each point made) This question asks you to evaluate your overall performance. This can include information on: Winning/losing/times/distances/personal best/feelings/emotions. For example: In my competitive Badminton game I won 21-16. I have never beat this opponent before so I am very happy. Complete 3(b) now.
