The Faculty of Law With some 4,200 students and comprehensive bachelor s and master s programmes, the Faculty of Law at KU Leuven is the oldest and the largest in the country and has a long tradition of public service. Its alumni hold prominent positions in leading law firms, high courts, European and international organisations, public institutions and politics. The faculty s Global Law School Programme brings authoritative legal experts from universities around the world to Leuven to host lectures, workshops and seminars for our international students. The programme provides students with a unique opportunity to obtain first-hand knowledge of other legal systems from leading experts. Our teaching faculty includes the Vice- President of the European Court of Justice, the Belgian Judge in the European Court of Human Rights, a Judge in the Constitu - tional Court and a judge in the Belgian Supreme Court. The faculty s research activities have a decidedly European, international and comparative orientation. Its staff members publish regularly in discipline-leading European and international law journals in several languages.
Master of Law double degree programme with Zurich University The law faculties of KU Leuven and the University of Zürich two of Europe s finest have joined up to offer a two-year Master of Law programme taught entirely in English. Students spend one year in Leuven and one year in Zurich. The programme focuses on each institution s strengths: International and European Law in Leuven and Arbitration Law, Financial Law and Human Rights in Zurich. Switzerland is a centre of arbitration and banking, and many international institutions are based there. Upon completion of the programme, students receive a double degree one from KU Leuven and another from the University of Zurich an added value for your future professional career in the international legal world. Each partner university selects fifteen students to participate in this highly competitive programme. Admission requirements All applicants must: hold a Bachelor of Laws degree demonstrate a satisfactory level of proficiency in English by providing one of the following tests: TOEFL (minimum score of 100), IELTS (minimum score of 7.5) or Cambridge Proficiency level certificate. send a motivation letter Profile The ideal prospective student for the Master of Laws programme: has undergraduate knowledge of local, European and international law and has a general understanding of the mutual relationship between these three systems of law; is capable of situating law in its social, historical and geographical context and is capable of subjecting law to critical, reflective research; has mastered and sufficiently extended his/her ability to reason in the abstract and his/her ability to achieve a synthesis and analysis to be able to think in a creative and law-forming manner; has acquired the capacities to argue and reason in a legal manner; has knowledge of sources of law; has core skills in written and oral expression in English.
