Florida Metropolitan Statistical Area Export Highlights In 2011, exports from 367 of the United States Metropolitan Statistical Areas (MSAs) reached $1.31 trillion, a 39.5% increase over 2009 when the President s National Export Initiative was launched. In the state of Florida, origin-exports are an economic driver that earned the ranking of fourth largest export state in the country in 2011, responsible for employing over 700,000 Floridians. Over 50,000 Florida companies export, accounting for 20% of all U.S. exporters and is the second highest number in the U.S. The following report provides an overview of the state s exports by metropolitan statistical area. In 2011, 20 Florida MSAs accounted for $63.4 billion in exports, or 4.5 percent of all U.S. MSA exports. Another $1.4 billion in exports originated in Florida s non-metropolitan rural areas. Florida MSA exports grew by 53.7% from 2007 to 2011 and by 18.5% from 2010 to 2011. Seven of Florida s MSAs each generated more than one billion in exports, and exports from two MSAs ranked in the top 50 for the entire U.S. The Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach MSA was the 5th largest export market in the United States, with merchandise shipments totaling $43.1 billion. This is up by 20.2% ($7.3 billion) from the $35.9 billion in merchandise exported in 2010. The Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater MSA was the 38th largest export market in the United States, with merchandise shipments totaling $7.7 billion. This is up by 16.6% ($1.1 billion) from the $6.6 billion in merchandise exported in 2010. Top Five Florida MSA Exports, 2011 (In Billions of U.S. Dollars) Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach $43.1 Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater $7.7 Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford $3.2 Jacksonville $2.4 Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent $1.3 All Other MSAs $5.6

Florida MSA Export Growth Trends The top five Florida MSAs that recorded the highest growth from 2007 to 2011 were: Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent (142.2%), Lakeland-Winter Haven (82.8%), Naples-Marco Island (81.0%), Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach (64.6%) and Deltona-Daytona Beach-Ormond Beach (54.3%). From 2010 to 2011, Panama City-Lynn Haven-Panama City Beach MSA exports experienced a growth rate of 92.1%, the highest growth of all Florida MSAs for that period. The Pensacola-Ferry Pass-Brent MSA also had the second highest growth rate from 2010-2011 at 46.9%. The Lakeland-Winter Haven, Palm Bay-Melbourne-Titusville, and Naples-Marco Island MSAs all saw growth rates of 35% during the same time period. 150.0% Florida MSA Export Growth from 2007-2011 125.0% 100.0% 75.0% 50.0% 25.0% 0.0% -25.0% -50.0%

This series, which the Census Bureau reintroduced in 2006, allocates exports to states and localities based on the address of the United States Principal Party in Interest (USPPI) of record.
