International STUDENT APPLICATION GUIDE Standard Entry Requirements Undergraduate International applicants will be assessed on an individual basis based on their country s academic qualifications and standards. Applications from individuals with non-standard qualifications, relevant work or life experience, and from those who can demonstrate the ability to cope with, and benefit from, degree level studies are welcome to apply. English Language Requirements The language of instruction and assessment for all programmes is English. Applicants should have a minimum of 5.0 IELTS (or equivalent) for entry. For LLB Law, a minimum of 5.5 IELTS is required, and for the International Business Communication, applicants should have a minimum 4.5 IELTS. Postgraduate Students should have at least a Bachelor degree (graded at a minimum of second class or equivalent), and an IELTS score of 6.5, or equivalent. Offer Letter Requirements Students who would like to apply for an Offer Letter (acceptance letter) must send to the Admissions Office the following documents: Copies of school documents (in native language and in English) as follows: For undergraduate applicants i. School leaving certificate For postgraduate applicants iii. Bachelor degree iv. Mark sheet Passport copy Minimum validity 2 years
International Students Visa Requirements How to Apply International students must apply to the University by the beginning of August by submitting the following documents to admissions@uclancyprus.ac.cy, or by post to UCLan Cyprus, P.O. Box 42440, Larnaka 6534, Cyprus. 1. A fully completed application form a. Passport size photo (1) b. 50 fee (non-refundable) 2. Attested (certified) medical certificates (native language & in English) a. HIV b. Hepatitis B c. Hepatitis C d. Syphilis e. Chest X-Ray report (Tuberculosis) - valid for 4 months 6. Attested (certified) bank certificate & bank statement (native language & in English) a. The bank certificate should state that the student or sponsor (father or mother) has the financial ability to support the student s tuition fees and living expenses in Cyprus during the whole study period b. The bank statement and bank certificate should be for the last two months and should be issued not later than 1 month from the application deadline. The amount stated should be no less than 7,000 Important Notes The student must produce two sets of attested (certified) copies for each original document All complete applications must reach the Admissions Office no later than 10th August
General Application Guidelines Once the University has received copies of all the student s school documents and valid passport, it will issue an Offer Letter (stating the terms & conditions of admission) for the programme the student is applying for. The remaining documents must be sent by 1st August in order for the Admissions Office to proceed with the rest of the application formalities. The complete set of documents will be submitted to the Ministry of Education and Culture for their evaluation of the academic documents and also, to the Migration Department of Cyprus for evaluation of the non-academic documents and visa. The issuance of visa varies according to the country of origin and therefore, for some countries the visa is issued from the Migration Department of Cyprus and is given to the University. The University is responsible for sending the visa (Temporary Entry Permit) to the student for entering Cyprus. For other nationalities the visa is issued from the Embassy/Consulate of Cyprus in the country of residence of the applicant and is attached in the student s passport. This visa is valid only for a limited number of days after arrival and it must be renewed immediately. The student must visit the Admissions Office of the University to arrange for its renewal and apply for the Temporary Residence Permit (pink slip). Students that visit the Embassy/Consulate of Cyprus to obtain their visa must make sure that all their documents [originals (except passport and school documents) and attested copies (all documents)] are attested by the Embassy/Consulate of Cyprus. Payments According to the Ministry of Education & Culture and the Migration Department of Cyprus, the minimum tuition fees payment is 3,500 and must be completed before the student arrives in Cyprus for visa approval. Refund Policy In case of withdrawal for any reason, any fees paid to UCLan Cyprus are refundable, as follows: Withdrawal before 31st October: full refund except for: o Application fee 50 o Migration application fee 86 o Medical insurance fee 170 o Administration fees 1,500 1,806 Withdrawal from 1st November until 31st January: o No refund given from the 3,500 Withdrawal from 1st February onwards: no refund and full fees are charged (as per offer letter) In cases where the student fails to obtain a visa and where the student has submitted all the documents required and these documents were considered satisfactory by the Cyprus Ministry of Education and the Migration authorities, the student will get a full refund except for: o Application fee 50 o Migration application fee 86 o Administration fees 100 236 Documents Required During Visa Interview For students that must attend a visa (entry permit) interview at the Embassy/ Consulate of the Republic of Cyprus in their country, the interview dates will be communicated to the applicant or to the University s local representative(s). The following documents (which should not be laminated) must be presented at the visa interview: 1. Two photographs 2. Original passport 3. Undergraduate programmes: Original Senior/High school leaving certificates with grades reports and two sets of attested copies of the original school documents Postgraduate programmes: Original Bachelor/Master s degree with grades reports and two sets of attested copies of the original certificates 4. Original bank sponsorship letter (certificate) & statement 5. Original police character certificate (no criminal record) 6. Original medical certificates 7. Tuition fees payment receipt from UCLan Cyprus 8. Original bank (money transfer) receipt of the tuition fees payment to the University. The University s name and account number, and the applicant s full name must be clearly stated on the receipt 9. Offer Letter (original or copy) Interview officers will stamp all the original documents and all other attested copies (except the original school certificates). Successful applicants will be granted an entry permit (visa) for Cyprus in their passports. Successful visa applicants should inform the Admissions Office, well in advance, of their arrival details (flight number and date) in order to arrange any transportation and accommodation facilities. It is advisable that you arrange your arrival during weekdays, rather than weekends.
Upon arrival at Larnaca airport, students will be required to present to the immigration authorities the following: 1. Original passport (with visa) 2. University Offer Letter 3. Cash, minimum 2,000 or US $3,000 4. Other documents stamped from Cyprus Consulate/Embassy Migration Regulations According to the migration & immigration regulations of Cyprus, students must attend their classes regularly; otherwise their Temporary Residence Permit (pink slip) will be terminated. Attendance at classes will be monitored. Students who do not register for an academic year must leave Cyprus. All students must maintain a balance in their bank account of 850 and keep their money transfer receipts from the bank, Western Union, etc. Bank Account All students must open a bank account with a local bank and deposit a minimum of 850. A copy of the bank book and the receipt should be submitted to the Admissions Office for the Temporary Residence Permit (pink slip). UCLan Cyprus student registration letter and a housing contract (attested by Notary Public) should be presented to the bank when opening a bank account. Financial Assistance UCLan Cyprus, is offering to its students, personal study loans from a range of banks in Cyprus with student friendly financial terms. Student loans are subject to approval from the bank and the University is not responsible in guaranteeing a student loan. Accommodation Accommodation will be available to all students studying at the University on a full-time basis. The prices vary according to single or shared occupancy, ranging from 250-350 per month/per person. Utilities such as electricity and water are extra and not included in the monthly rent. 1 bedroom apartment 350 / per month (12 months contract) 2 bedrooms apartment 300 / per month / per person (12 months contract) 3 bedrooms apartment 250 / per month / per person (12 months contract) Cost of Living The cost of living in Cyprus varies according to the students life style; however, it is estimated that the average amount required for food, transportation and personal expenses is 600 per month. Weather Conditions Cyprus is well known for its warm weather and long sunshine periods lasting up to 8 months. The average annual temperature on the coast is around 24 C (75 F) during the day and 14 C (57 F) at night. Winter is mild and it rarely snows on the mainland.
