International CAD Conference and Exhibition, Final Program CAD 12 Volume 9 3 of 113

Alexandru Patriciu McMaster University CANADA Topic: Parallel Algorithms for Needle Insertions in Soft Tissues using NVIDIA CUDA Abstract: Alexandru Patriciu is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, at McMaster University. His research interests lie in the areas of medical robotics, robotic assisted deformable objects manipulation, and parallel algorithms for surgical simulations. His keynote speech will address the issue of designing parallel algorithms for needle insertions in soft tissues using NVIDIA CUDA parallel architecture. Rafael Bidarra Delft University of Technology THE NETHERLANDS Topic: How'd You Like Your World Today? Abstract: Rafael Bidarra is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at Delft University of Technology, where he leads the Game Technology Research Lab at the Computer Graphics and Visualization Group. In this keynote, he will address the current game development challenge of coping with the huge amount of content in increasingly large game worlds. Much research has been seeking solutions for automating the content generation process. Procedural methods presently offer very promising results, but are still far from application in mainstream game development practice due to a number of shortcomings. He will discuss some of their drawbacks, and how they can be overcome, and introduce declarative modeling of virtual worlds, an approach aimed at enabling non technical professionals to build virtual worlds as they please. A variety of research results will be illustrated with recent examples. International CAD Conference and Exhibition, Final Program CAD 12 Volume 9 4 of 113
