Testing MCTC requires most incoming freshman to take the COMPASS assessment exam, which is provided by the college at no expense to the student, so it s not necessary to take the ACT. However, your ACT scores are welcome in place of the COMPASS. Orientation and advising MCTC provides orientation for new students. Start here, end up anywhere! credits transfer easily to four-year colleges MCTC credits transfer to all Kentucky public universities. You can complete your freshman and sophomore years at MCTC by earning an associate degree. MCTC has special program agreements with the majority of Kentucky colleges and universities. Your MCTC advisor can provide you with the details. Why Transfer? MCTC is a great place to begin your higher education because it provides an affordable, quality education that is close to home. Transfer Checklist Research the program or college you are interested in attending. New University/KCTCS Transfer Scholarship Programs Attend information sessions offered by the college and/or get in touch with their transfer contact, admissions office, or the department to which you are interested in transferring. Note deadlines for applications, scholarships, placement tests, etc. Talk with an advisor. Develop a transfer plan to map how your courses can be used to fulfill the requirements of your intended program. Keep course outlines for all classes you take. Store them in a binder or some other safe place you can access easily. Find out what GPA is required for admission to the institution and/or program and if other requirements exist (e.g., interim transcripts, test scores, volunteer experience, references, interview/portfolio, etc.). Eastern Kentucky university Transfer Students KCTCS students with a minimum of 24 credit hours of course work and a GPA of at least 3.0 at time of transfer are eligible for a scholarship valued at half the in-state undergraduate tuition rate. This scholarship is renewable for up to six consecutive semesters. Recipients must maintain a GPA of 2.5, remain a full-time student in good standing and meet minimum eligibility for all federal, state and institutional grants. Morehead state University MSU scholarships are available for KCTCS graduates with at least 48 semester hours of course work in increments of $2,500 for students with a 3.6 to 4.0 GPA and $2,000 for students with a 3.2 to 3.59 GPA. Scholarship recipients who are concurrently enrolled with at least six hours at MSU while completing their two-year degree at KCTCS qualify for one-half the scholarship amount offered to full-time MSU students. Murray state university KCTCS transfer students who have a 3.0 GPA and 60 hours of credit are eligible to apply for the Murray State University Transfer Scholarship. The scholarship provides $2,000. These scholarships are for students who successfully apply to MSU and intend to become full-time students. Students must apply to MSU by February 1. University of Kentucky 2020 Scholars Initiative Trustees Scholars to increase transfers from KCTCS Catalyst Scholars, which is a need-based aid scholarship Flagship Scholars, which is based on academic excellence Provost Scholars to promote math and science in high schools Students who earn an associate degree and have a 3.5 grade point average or above have the opportunity to transfer to UK and continue to pay KCTCS tuition rates for two years. Western Kentucky university Transfer students from KCTCS with an associate degree and a cumulative transfer GPA of 3.5. Fulltime students will receive a $2,500 scholarship and part-time students will receive a $1,500 scholarship. Renewable for up to two academic years if students maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.5.

The road to a degree is paved with financial aid Each year, more than 1,227 students or 75% of the MCTC student body receive some form of financial aid. MCTC students receive about $3 million in financial aid $1.4 million in federal Pell Grants and $1 million in loans. In all, MCTC students received (Fall 2005): Total grants, state and federal: $1,902,648 Federal work-study program: $33,600 Loans: $1,078,605 Scholarships: over $50,000 in various scholarships Most students qualify for some form of financial aid. Financial aid applications are available from your high school guidance counselors, financial aid offices, and on the web at www.fafsa. ed.gov. FINANCIAL AID CHECKLIST: 1. Complete federal tax forms as early as possible. You ll need this information to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Be sure to make copies! 2. File your FAFSA as soon after January 1st as possible or as early as possible before the semester you want to start. Filing early gets you in line for any free financial aid grants; these are typically awarded on a first-come, first-served basis until funds are exhausted. Your financial information will be forwarded to the schools you list on the FAFSA. If you file a paper FAFSA, make sure it is filled out completely and legibly. 3. Don t limit your options on financial aid. Indicate that you are interested in student loans and work-study options. Also, financial aid awarded by companies and organizations often requires a special application. Contact them to get the form(s) and any other requirements. 4. Keep a copy of every financial aid form you complete. Put it in a file along with your college applications and catalogs. 5. Contact the financial aid office of schools you are considering for any additional financial aid application forms and deadlines. Each school you list on the FAFSA will consider you for financial aid and will notify you of its decision in late spring or early summer.
