Wi-Fi builds up Aircel has 50,000 WiFi Zones across India. Aircel's offering its WiFi services in 9 locations across India : Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi,Hyderabad, Haryana, Mumbai, Maharastra, West Bengal and Punjab. Aircel has partnered with Spectranet and O-zone for Wi Fi zones. Tikona Digital Networks implemented Aircel owned hotspots across India. 1000 hotspots six metros Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Kolkata, Chennai and Hyderabad. Spectranet plans to expand to three more cities across India by 2011. Spectranet plans to invest `500 crore to expand its services across 50,000 wi-fi hotspots. O-zone is planning to tie up with cellular operators Vodafone and Idea to provide Internet connectivity via WiFi. O-zone is already in a partnership with Airtel and Aircel. O-Zone and Alcatel Lucent have inked an agreement for jointly developing Wi-Fi hotspots across the country. O-zone has 5,000 Wi-Fi access points across the country, out of which 3,000 hotspots are already providing service. Zylog -Wi5 service is currently available in 154 locations. Wi5 subscribers in 2010-11 were 30,000 Revenue earned in 2010-11 = ` 23 Crores Future plans for 2011-12: Zylog System expects to increase its customer base to 1,00,000. Rural 2G expansion / Urban 3G capacity Requirements will be drivers. Co-lo 2G/3G sites will be in Demand. Quality of Experience will become Paramount as 3G kicks in. Samsung & Nokia each launched 4 Wi-Fi enabled handsets. Videocon launched the highest number of handsets in India. India Handset Analysis for QE Mar-2011 HTC, Samsung, Motorola, Sony Ericsson each launched two handsets on the Android Platform during this period. Nokia has announced plans of transferring its Symbian software activities to Accenture and is keen on focusing on windows platform. Iphone 4 was launched in India at the end of April 2011.
