On the basis of this test, students are allocated to the appropriate English class. Learning outcomes/td> On successful completion of this submodule, students will have improved their proficiency in all four skill areas, namely speaking, listening, reading and writing, in general English and in functional Business English. They will have gained the necessary competence to speak about a wide variety of topics more confidently and will be able to identify and avoid typical errors and "false friends". This is an interactive submodule based on self-reliance, self-correction and a variety of successful learning techniques which integrate set coursework and tailored exercises in all essential areas of English. This submodule revises all the important structural and semantic areas of general English at B1 level aiming at taking the students towards B2 standards. Moreover, it introduces the participants to the fundamental aspects of Business English. These cover personal introductions, telephone conversations, letter and essay writing as well as brief corporate portraits. The major linguistic emphasis is on the revision of the English tenses and aspects and on the introduction to fundamental business terms and idioms. Learning outcomes/td> This submodule has been designed to enhance the participants' oral and written communication skills, which are essential for those who want to study abroad and to pursue a business programme delivered in English. On completing this programme, the students will be familiar with the standard phrases and expressions used in most areas of business communication. They will be able to distinguish between essential forms of writing such as essay writing, scientific summaries, synopses and report writing. Learning outcomes/td> The purpose of this submodule is to improve the participants' communication and negotiation skills so that they can confidently handle international meetings and negotiations. On completing this unit the participants will have learned to fully understand the techniques used to chair and minute meetings, and to conduct international negotiations especially from an Anglophone angle. They will understand that cultural backgrounds may impact considerably on the style and the language of meetings and negotiations, and will therefore be able to avoid interpersonal and intercultural hurdles.
