The Bud Adams Memorial Scholarship Two @ $1000.00 The Bud Adams Memorial Scholarship is available to two graduating seniors at Owen High School. Two $1000.00 scholarships (one male and one female) will be issued to the educational institution of the student s choice. This scholarship has been established by the Black Mountain Men s Golf Association to honor the memory of the late Bud Adams, Black Mountain Golf Course Superintendent from 1990-2004. The Black Mountain Men s Golf Association established this scholarship to help deserving students who aspire to a strong work and professional ethic like that of Bud Adams. When Bud accepted the superintendent s job at Black Mountain, he inherited a run down, poorly mismanaged turf grass program. He immediately went to work resurrecting broken down equipment he found in the junk pile, putting in the time needed to complete the job, and working with his crew as opposed to just supervising. Most importantly, he instilled in his employees that taking pride in their work produced a better product for all to enjoy. At his death, Bud had transformed a broken down golf course into one of the finest in WNC. Students with Bud Adams characteristics are what the committee is seeking. We look forward to reviewing your applications and reading your essays.
