MERLIN 2017 Vehicle Tracking WORKS WITH EXISTING 2-WAY RADIO COMPACT INPUTS AND OUTPUTS COST EFFECTIVE High speed: 1200 Baud MSK 16 Channel internal GPS with backup power supply 6 General purpose I/O lines for vehicle monitoring or remote control Programmable GPS on Demand, Emergency and Code 3 Alert Compact: only 6 x 5.25 x 1.25 LTR, Passport and conventional compatible PC Programmable Non-volatile E 2 PROM stores 1024 position fixes for later replay Merlin 2017 Dual Mode Terminal with GPS The Merlin series from Pyramid Communications is a microprocessor controlled GPS based Automatic Vehicle Location device that connects to an existing conventional or trunking 2-way radio and will automatically send its position information to dispatch on a programmed interval. The Merlin has 3 inputs that can be used for general purpose vehicle monitoring (doors open, shotgun removed, etc...) or can be programmed to special functions. The also has 3 general purpose outputs that can be used to alert the driver when out of the vehicle or for remote control of vehicle functions. The Merlin easily interfaces to any conventional or trunking mobile. Position updates are stored in non-volatile E 2 PROM memory for download and playback at a later time. Merlin is capable of storing 85 hours of vehicular activity at five minute update intervals. Dual Mode Operation The Merlin will automatically send its position information on a pre-programmed interval. One of the general purpose inputs can be programmed as a Code 3 input. When activated will update at a shorter interval for more accurate tracking by dispatch. Both update rates are PC programmable. Normal rate can be programmed between one minute and four hours in one minute increments. Code 3 rate can be programmed between five seconds and 20 minutes in 5 second increments. Smart Trunking Access When the Merlin is connected to a trunking radio and a GPS update is sent, the unit will key the radio for 200mS; it then monitors the radio's transmitter for an on-air condition. If it does not see the radio transmit at all (system is busy), it will retry every four seconds until successful or time out (60 sec). When it detects that the radio is transmitting, it will continue to monitor the on-air line until the transmitter remains keyed for at least 400mS to ensure that the radio is not handshaking or retrying. After successful acquisition of a voice channel, it will send its status request ensuring the message is received by the base. 714 901-5462 www.pyramidcomm.com Since 1990

The Merlin is able to store 1024 position fixes including date, time, speed, heading and position fix within 50 feet. The data is stored in a circular queue with the oldest data being over written with each new position fix. The Merlin can store 85 hours of vehicular activity at five minute update intervals. Programmable Inputs The Merlin has 3 general purpose inputs that can be used to monitor vehicle status such as door open, shotgun removed from holder, etc. Each input has a special function that can be enabled via PC programming. Input 1 can be programmed for Emergency transmission to alert dispatch in the event of a pending emergency. The number of emergency transmissions is programmable. Input 2 can be used for GPS on Demand that will send a position fix whenever a switch is closed. Input 3 can be used for Code 3 input to change the update rate between slow and fast. PC Programmable The Merlin is PC programmable for all operating parameters using the FY-1 programming cable. Parameters include: Signaling speed (1200), PTT delay, # of retries, I/O polarities, normal and Code 3 update rates, Emergency operation, and GPS on Demand. System Design The Merlin works in conjunction with the Model 2016 intelligent modem that connects between a PC or mainframe/ mini computer to provide a complete dispatch system. Street Smarts Enterprise works with Pyramid Communications model 2017 Merlin Automatic Vehicle Location equipment, and 3012 Mobile Data Terminals. The software program includes detailed street level map databases for the entire United States, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Brazil, and the British Virgin Islands. Operation The Street Smarts Enterprise mapping software program allows the dispatcher to visually locate each vehicle on a map, providing street address, vehicle speed, vehicle ID, and I/O status information to the dispatcher for each vehicle displayed. Geo-fencing allows the dispatcher to define geographic boundaries then receive advisories when the vehicle arrives or leaves these areas. In addition, the over-the-speed-limit indicator will notify the dispatcher when a vehicle exceeds a pre-determined speed. Events and location data sent to the mobile units are all stored on the Street Smarts Enterprise Server, which is both the data source for all stored data as well as the communications hub for radio related communications. All data is stored in a robust structure of Microsoft SQL databases. Report features include vehicle, time, date, status, heading and speed information. Built-in distance counters and address lookup help dispatcher give better direction to drivers. Street Smarts Enterprise has server based architecture, which requires Street Smarts Enterprise Server to be running on a centrally located server computer. The Street Smarts Enterprise Server can support any combination of up to 16 Pyramid 2016 Base modems or base radios to communicate with mobile units. *Maps for other countries available
Street Smarts Enterprise Server CENTRAL DATA STORAGE FLEXIBLE COMMUNICATIONS SERVERS MOBILE APPLICATION SERVER Realtime Monitoring and Logging of Entire Fleet Supports Windows 2003, 2007 Server Desktop and Mobile Application Support Centralized Microsoft SQL Database Structure Secure Communications with Client Applications Enterprise Level Architecture Street Smarts Enterprise Edition Pyramid Communications Street Smarts Enterprise Server consists of two core elements. The Database Server application is the central database storage application for all vehicle activity as well as vehicle and user databases. Client applications connect and retrieve live data from the Database Server as well as retrieve historical data from the database. The Radio Communications Server application connects to the mobile radio equipment and handles all traffic to and from mobile devices as well as to third party applications. Operation The Street Smarts Enterprise supports many radio technologies, such as Pyramid units, Motorola MOTOTRBO and 3012TRBO MDT, Kenwood NEXEDGE/FleetSync and 3012NX MDT. The Radio Communications Application also integrates with other third party software, such as Street Smarts Enterprise server supports many levels of client connectivity. Street Smarts Enterprise client, a 32 bit Windows application, can connect and view live vehicle data as well as retrieve historical data from the central database. The Server also allows mobile apps, such as Street Smarts Mobile (available for iphone/ipad and Android devices) to connect and retrieve data while in the field. Mobile applications for ios and Android devices allow remote users to access realtime data on their mobile device and pull historical data from the central database. Remote users can also view status information and send text messages from Street Smarts Mobile. With the varying complexity of today's radio networks, Pyramid's Street Smarts Enterprise Server Database application can support up to 50 remote connections from Street Smarts Communications Server applications in order to facilitate remote wide area networks. Command-Alkon, MultiSpeak applications, Trapeze routing software and others in order to provide status and GPS data to these applications from the mobile network. 714 901-5462 www.pyramidcomm.com MOTOROLA, MOTO, MOTOROLA SOLUTIONS and the Stylized M Logo are trademarks or registered trademarks of Motorola Trademark Holdings, LLC and are used under license.
