1001 SOUTH LEECHBURG HILL LEECHBURG, PA 15656 Phone: 724-845-9355 Fax: 724-845-1186 SERVICE LINE EXTENSION AND SERVICE LINE CONNECTION CONDENSED SANITARY SEWER SYSTEM INSTALLATION SPECIFICATIONS 1. General - Service line extension shall include connection to service line wye connection, sewer service line, running trap with fresh air vent, cleanout, inspection port, and connection to building drain. No surface water from roof leaders, foundation drain, area drains, or other pipes shall be connected to the sanitary sewer. No bends greater than 45 shall be utilized on any service line. Each and every sewer line exiting a building shall be provided with its own exclusive vent trap and cleanout assembly. All directions changes greater than 45 shall be made with bends not exceeding 45. 2. Building Drain All sewers below floors of building and 5 feet outside the building shall be Schedule 40 or SDR 35 Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC). A running tap with vent shall be installed at the end of each building drain (gray and black water) as shown. A cleanout shall be included on the downstream side of all traps. Vents may not be located in driveways. Existing buildings currently utilizing building drain materials other than those approved herein must install an approved pipe material to within a distance no more than 6 feet from the building wall. 3. Size All service lines shall be 6 inches in diameter provided that pipe is laid on minimum slopes of 1/8 inch per foot, or 4 inch with a minimum slope of ¼ inch per foot. Cleanouts shall be provided at intervals of not more than 52 feet for 4 inch pipe and 100 feet for 6 inch pipe. 4. Cleanouts Cleanouts consisting of wye branch, curve, riser, and watertight plug are required at intervals specified above or at all direction changes greater than 45. Wye branch and curve shall be concrete encased with a thickness of 6 inches. If a cleanout is located in the driveway area, concrete encasement is required for a full height of cleanout. 5. View Port A 6inch diameter view port consisting of a 6 x 6 x 6 tee, 6 inch riser pipe, and cast iron frame and cover shall be installed at the property line or edge of right-ofway as shown. Frame shall be set on an adequate concrete block for support and shall not be attached to the riser pipe. 6. Materials All sewer materials shall be Bell or PVC pipe (ASTM-D3034) SDR 35 with flexible elastomeric seals. Installation Inspection directions Jan 2010.doc

7. Installation Before digging a trench, the installer shall expose existing building sewer connection and connection point to the Authority collection system. Trench width shall be kept to minimum width and have uniform slope at approved grade and as near as possible at right angles to the street. Excavate all trenches at least 6 inches below invert of pipe. Place granular backfill (1/4 to ¾ only) in trench with granular material uniformly along both sides of pipe. Remaining backfill, if satisfactory, shall be suitable material from the original excavation. 8. Adapters Connections between the plain end of different pipe material shall be made with flexible coupling manufactured by Calder or Fernco. 9. Inspections The Authority shall be notified when the building drain, service line extension and related appurtenances have been installed and prior to any backfilling so that the entire installation can be inspected. The contractor/building owner shall be permitted to place the granular material under and around the pipe, leaving all fittings and bends exposed for inspection by the Township/Authority Inspector. After approval of the installation by Inspector the fittings and bends shall be embedded in the granular material as required, and the trench properly backfilled. Final inspection will not be scheduled until all applications for service have been submitted and approved, and all tapping fees or other charges due and payable have been remitted to the Authority. Any re-inspections required as a result of failure to follow these specifications shall require a re-inspection fee of $25 prior to completion of that inspection. 10. Final Connection If a completed connection to the building drain is not made at the time of installation of the building sewer, a temporary plug shall be installed into the end of the lateral and shall not be removed until such time as the connection is made to the building drain and an Authority inspector is present. 11. OSHA Standards All excavation shall be performed in accordance with the latest edition of Employer Employee Safe Practices for Excavation and Trenching Operations. 12. Inspection Form Following the inspection of the service lateral, the property owner and inspector shall complete a service lateral inspection form. NOTICE: More detailed information is available at the Municipal Authority office upon request. 43
