Attracting promising researchers Up to the present Van den Herik has been privileged in being able to attract many talented researchers. He was supervisor of 41 Ph.D. researchers of whom two have currently reached the rank of professor (Eric Postma, Tim Grant); others are expected to do so in some years. Two very talented students Dr. Jan Scholtes (M.Sc. at DUT, Ph.D. in Amsterdam) and Dr. Victor Allis chose for a career in business instead of science. Among the 41, one Ph.D. student received the predicate cum laude (Antal van den Bosch). He is one of the promising researchers (see below). Currently, in Maastricht and Leiden Van den Herik leads a Ph.D. research programme in which 28 Ph.D. students participate.
