1 PhD Program - The PhD Program of the of the Open Universiteit Nederland has been established to enable students to successfully write and defend a dissertation to fulfill the requirements of the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (PhD, Dr). The program will help students to: 1. design and complete a high quality dissertation 2. publish related research articles 3. complete the program in four to six years The aim of the doctoral dissertation is to make an original contribution to knowledge and to be of a standard appropriate for publication in a quality, peer-reviewed journal of international standing. It is reasonable to expect to publish three academic journal articles related to the dissertation research. You will be required to defend your dissertation research at an oral examination conducted by five or six examiners, two of which are typically international experts external to the University. In the PhD program students will work closely with: a. The PhD Supervisor b. The PhD Program Director c. Specialist/experts in the areas of management study, research methodology, quantitative and qualitative research techniques d. Fellow PhD students in the program The Open Universiteit Nederland Doctoral Training Program offers an on-going series of workshops, online study and developmental opportunities. Topics included in the PhD Program workshops are: Research methodology Quantitative Research Techniques Qualitative Research Techniques Academic Writing and Getting Published in Academic Journals (Virtual) Academic Community Finding and managing information Keeping up to date with new research Intelligent web searching and access to scientific literature The student-supervisor relationship Project and Time management Presentation skills

3 The individual workshops are offered from Wednesday afternoon until Saturday afternoon once every four months in the first and second year. Faculty and Research Our faculty members are researchers who are passionate about their areas of expertise, and are committed to ensuring that students achieve their full potential. Most of the professors have published in domestic and international journals and are regular reviewers and editorial board members of a variety of academic journals. 5 The PhD Portal All PhD students will have access to the PhD portal. In this portal PhD students will be able to access the Program Information, Program Materials, the Library and Student Library. In addition the PhD portal is used to discuss academic issues and research as they relate to the development of a successful dissertation. This discussion takes place among PhD students, Experts and PhD supervisors. Below picture provides an overview of the PhD portal.

6 Tuition fee The tuition fee for the PhD program is! 4750 per year. This tuition fee includes: 1. Three workshops in the first and second year of the PhD program 2. Two academic meetings and workshops in subsequent years 3. Access to and participation in the (virtual) academic community 4. Printing and publishing of the final version of the dissertation 5. Lunches and dinners during the workshops The tuition fee does not include: 1. Travel costs to and from the workshops 2.
