EIU collected their seventh straight loss after falling to North Texas 63-61 in overtime Wednesday night. Northwestern is also on a losing streak heading into Friday s game after falling to DePaul, Missouri State, and Green Bay. STEELE S CAREER NIGHT Freshman Taylor Steele had a career performance vs. North Texas Wednesday night. Steele scored a team-leadings and career-high 21 points. Four of Steele s 21 points came in the fourth quarter to put the Panthers up 2 with 33 seconds left to play. Steele was 7-of-10 from the field connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Steele also collected a career-high of five rebounds and dishes out a careerhigh three assists. Steele played a game and career-high 45 minutes of action vs. the Mean Green. RELYING ON THE THREE The Panthers rely heavily on the three-point shot averaging 27.6 threes per game. The team took 30 vs. North Texas. Halle Stull and Taylor Steele made six of EIU s nine three-pointers made. The Panthers put up 31 from beyond the arc vs. Valparaiso as Carmen Tellez connected on a game-leading four three-pointers. In his first season with the Illini, Bollant led them to the post season for the first time in three years finishing with a winning Big Ten record for the first time in ten seasons. Before his time at Illinois, he was head coach at Green Bay. He guided the Phoenix to five straight Horizon League titles and had four straight trips to the NCAA tournament. While at Green Bay his record was 148-19 overall and 85-5 in the HL. He was named Horizon League Coach of the Year four times. Bollant started his head coaching career at Bryan College in 2002. He led the Lady Lions to four straight NAIA tournaments. Bollant holds a 343-149 overall record as he takes over the Panthers who are coming off a 9-19 losing season. LAST TIME OUT The Panthers fell in an overtime thriller vs. North Texas last Wednesday. Halle Stull scored 11 second quarter points on 4-of-5 from the field to put the Panthers up 24-20 heading into the second half. Carmen Tellez scored back-to-back three pointers in the third quarter to give EIU their largest lead of nine points. Taylor Steele scored a career-high 21 points and completed the four point play with 33 seconds left in the fourth quarter to give the Panthers a two point lead. North Texas scored on the next possession forcing overtime. Terriell Bradley hit the game-winning buzzer beater to secure the two point win for the Mean Green. Bradley finished with 21 points. Danielle Berry added seven points, six boards, five steals, and four assists. Stull finished with a season-high 16 points. SCOUTING NORTHWESTERN Northwestern is 6-7 heading into Friday s match-up. The Wildcats opened the season with four straight wins over Chicago State, Oakland, UT Martin, and Santa Clara. Their biggest loss of the season came on Dec. 16 at Missouri State when they fell 90-59. Northwestern is currently on a three-game losing streak. Lindsey Pulliam leads the Wildcats with 14.7 points per game while Abi Scheid adds 13 ppg and 5.5 rebounds per game. Pallas Kunaiyi-Akpanah nearly averages a double-double for Northwestern with 9.8 ppg and 10 rpg. Jordan Hamilton leads the team in assists with 5.2 dimes per game while averaging 6.9 points and 4.3 rebounds. She also hit two from beyond the arc vs. Valparaiso, one at Fort Wayne, two vs. Bradley, and three at Cleveland State. The Panthers have played only three games this season where Steele failed to connect from three-point range. She hit two in EIU s win over Evansville and one on the road at Saint Joseph s. Danielle Berry filled the stats sheet for the Panthers vs. North Texas. Berry added seven points while grabbing five rebounds. She tied her career-high of four assists while tallying five steals for the second time this season. The Panthers forced North Texas to commit 22 turnovers, which led to 27 EIU points of turnovers. The Panthers also dominated the paint scoring 27 points inside. EIU posted their fifth game in double-digit assists vs. North Texas with 14. Danielle Berry and Carmen Tellez each recorded four vs. the Mean Green. They posted 15 vs. Valparaiso at home on Dec. 18. They also tallied 17 at Cleveland State and Fort Wayne on the road and 20 vs. Evansville in their lone win this season. The Panthers were out-rebounded 38-32 by North Texas and gave up 12 offensive boards leading to 10 second-chance points for the Mean Green. Senior Guard Grace Lennox will miss the remainder of the season due to injury. Lennox was the team s leading scorer and led in assists and steals per game. She averaged 15.4 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists in the Panthers first nine games of the season.
