Creating "Origin Pull" on Akamai (1) An "Origin Pull" on Akamai is set by creating a new "Configuration", you can create configurations for each of Akamai's services Object Caching - Standard CDN services, where Akamai caches your object (files, images) at the Edge HTTP Downloads - For files over 100MB On Demand Streams - For Video Streaming Progressive Media - For Video files (non-streaming) This guide will server as a quick overview, for more extensive information on the configuration guide, please read the Akamai Configuration Manager User Guide To create a configuration, choose the service you require and click on "configuration", then select "Create a New Configuration" Next you will be presented with several pages of options, here are the instructions for each one: page 1 / 7

1 - Configuration name: usually it is a good idea to name it either the location you pulling the objects from (origin) or the origin name itself (example: mydomain.com or cdn.mydomain.com) 2 - Description 3 - Digital Properties: here you enter the CNAME you wish to use to call your objects from, notice this is NOT your origin, but the domain/subdomain you will use to call from origin (example cdn.mydomain.com) 4 - Origin Type: Always select "My Origin: On the next window, please read carefully the notices and warnings and then select: page 2 / 7

5 - CP Code: Your account will have ONE Cp code for each service, please select the available CP code from the dropdown meanu 6 - Origin Server Hostname: This is the server that Akamai will "pull" your origin files from (example: mydomain.com) 7 - On this selection please choose "Origin Server" as the expected hostname 8 - If your Origin server is not a IIS server (windows) it is safe to ignore the case on the URL's page 3 / 7

By default, Akamai sets all objects to be cached -- that is, all objects a max-age. You can override this default for specific objects by clicking the Add Rule link, unless you have specific needs, it is safe to just hit "next" and leave the default settings on this window You have just completed configuring required features for your Object Caching configuration. Now you can select optional features. Or if you prefer, you can skip this page for now and add optional features later. page 4 / 7

page 5 / 7

Additional options such as configuring Akamai to pass the end user IP or access control are all present here. Once you are done, you then select to "Activate" the configuration, this will take a few hours (2-10) to become active, you can also enter an "activation email" to be warned when the configuration went LIVE The last step is to set a URL target to point your CNAME to, this will be an Akamai URL, you only require one per configuration group, but it needs to be created once. Configuration groups are as follows: C-8VI7P - For "Object Caching" C-8T3YP - For "Http downloads, On Demand Streams, Progressive Media" To create your CNAME target, please select "tools" under the service you are working on and then "Edge Hostnames" Next please select "Create Edge Hostname" page 6 / 7

Powered by TCPDF (www.tcpdf.org) Knowledge Base A - Select the Configuration Group (on this case, for Object caching, it's C-8VI7P) B - Select your EDGE hostname (example myedgename.edgesuite.net) Now all that is left to do is to edit your DNS record and point your CDN domain (set on STEP "3") to the EDGE hostname, such as mydomain.com CNAME myedgename.edgesuite.net And it's all done!!, once the configuration is active and the CNAME is resolving, calls to cdn.mydomain.com will be cached from mydomain.com page 7 / 7
