Mishawaka occupies one of the busiest intersections in America s Crossroads, making it a prime location for transporting people and goods across the country or around the world. 12 Hours 10 Hours 4 Hours 2 Hours TRANSPORTATION IN MISHAWAKA The City of Mishawaka is conveniently located less than 30 minutes away from the South Bend Regional Airport, and 2 hours from the Fort Wayne International Airport. Both airports are Foreign Trade Sites, and have current and on-going plans for expansion. Mishawaka is criss-crossed by our nation s largest interstate highways, including the Interstate 80/90 toll road and U.S. Route 31, which directly connect our community to Chicago, Cleveland, Indianapolis and southwestern Michigan. By highway, Mishawaka is located: 100 miles from Chicago, Illinois 140 miles from Indianapolis, Indiana 200 miles from Detroit, Michigan The City of Mishawaka is served by two of the largest Class I Freight Railroad companies: Canadian National and Norfolk Southern. The Norfolk Southern line operates out of the Robert Young Railroad Yard, located in nearby Elkhart, Indiana. Many of the nation s largest shipping companies, including FedEx, the United States Postal Service, and American International Freightways are regionally headquartered in the Mishawaka area.

EDUCATION Mishawaka is home to a large, diverse, and educated workforce, supported by the city s secondary schools and places of higher learning. The City of Mishawaka has invested over 60 million dollars in developing and refurbishing its utilities and infrastructure facilities in an attempt to provide better, more efficient services to its citizens. Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion The city has invested 39 million dollars in an effort to update its wastewater treatment plant. The project is slated for completion in the next year. Neighborhood Initiatives Program This program consists of a coordinated effort to improve Mishawaka s neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Initiatives program has been instrumental in the installation of new sewer systems, curbs and sidewalks, and has spear-headed an effort to provide owner -occupied home rehabilitation and spotblight elimination throughout the city.
