9 The Best Kept Secret in Michiana! IUSB has been offering degrees in computer science since IUSB is the only public institution in the region (60 miles radius) equipped to offer quality undergraduate and graduate programs in computer science, information systems and informatics. We have over 170 declared undergraduates in Computer Science and Informatics, and 30 graduate students in Applied Math and Computer Science. Our class sizes average around 20 students, and almost never exceeding 30. We have ten full time faculty with Ph.D. degrees in computer science or closely related areas. We offer courses in South Bend, Elkhart and Plymouth campuses. Our programs are based on the recommendations of the ACM and IEEE. Our faculty conduct research in a number of areas in computer science, including artificial intelligence, computer graphics, computer networks, computer Security, algorithms, software engineering and database systems. Our alumni have nearly 100% placement. Nearly 75% of our alumni stay and work in the area, making our community stronger. Typical salary for our new graduates in the region is approximately $40,000 to $52,000. The Department of Computer and Information Sciences
10 Employment There are excellent employment opportunities for our graduates. Almost every alumni of our program is gainfully employed. In our region, the average starting salary for our graduates is currently in the mid 40's. Nationally, salaries range from low 40's to upper 70's. According to predictions by the Bureau of Labor Statistics during the period between 2004 to 2014, five of the top 20 jobs are within the computer science discipline will experience significant growth.
