Employee Benefits Our flexible benefits package makes your life easier There are many benefits for working for Age UK Hertfordshire, but best of all, there is a real chance for you to make a major difference to the everyday lives of vulnerable older people
Imagine the job satisfaction when your team has helped older people in the county claim an extra 3 million in benefits over just 18 months. They are entitled to this money, but didn t know it until our Information and Advice team got involved. Lack of money is a serious problem for many older people but loneliness and isolation can be even more threatening. When you go home having spent the day arranging for volunteers to make weekly visits to people who otherwise spend days on end alone, you have the great feeling that comes from having done something good and worthwhile with your day. Job satisfaction is probably the greatest benefit we can offer and it will really change the way you feel about work, but there are other, more tangible benefits to a career with Age UK Hertfordshire. When you start... We don t just throw you in at the deep end! When you join us, we will develop a full induction and training plan that is tailored exactly to your skills and needs. We know that challenges will crop up along the way, and if you need to learn new skills or techniques, we will provide you with coaching, shadowing, e-learning, external and internal courses or accredited training whatever best suits you and the situation.
We mainly work in teams, and together we generate a warm, supportive environment that tends to bring out the best in people. There is always someone you can discuss things with; you are never just left alone with a problem. We are open to ideas, and will take your suggestions seriously. Working Hours Our full time working week is 35 hours with a half hour lunch break. We offer a flexible working scheme, so that you can choose to start earlier or later within our core hours of 8.30 to 5. This is really helpful if you have children to take to school, or perhaps an evening class, sports training or parents who need to see you after work. Flexible Working We are people with complex lives and many commitments outside work, just like you. Some of us work part time, others full time, and some have a job sharing arrangement. Some of us are hourly paid casual workers with no fixed hours. We want you to join us, so we are happy to consider a more creative approach to your working hours if it makes your life more manageable. Annual leave Annual leave starts at 20 days (plus bank holidays) and three additional days in between Christmas and New Year. The longer you work for us, the more leave you get, up to a maximum of 30 days, plus 3 days at Christmas and the bank holidays. The equivalent applies, pro-rata, for part time staff. Contributory Pension Scheme We have a contributory pension scheme with two different plans for you to choose from, both provided by the Pension Trust. You pay in 6% of your salary, and we contribute the same amount for you. Health Cash Plan All staff are signed up to our Health Cash Plan at no charge to the individual. The Plan allows you to reclaim the cost of your health care expenses. It applies to dental, medical, optical and some other treatments (up to specific limits). The plan is provided by Simply Health and includes a counselling line.
Sick Pay We all get sick sometimes. We provide sick pay going beyond statutory requirements to support our staff when they are too unwell to work. Travel Expenses We pay travel expenses for the use of your car at 40p per mile. Career Progression Once you have joined us, there is plenty of scope for you to progress within the organisation. Many of our key staff came to us first as volunteers, and the Chief Executive joined as a Day Care Manager. We want to keep you and develop your talents, so we try to make sure you don t feel stuck. Investors in people Bronze We have a strong commitment to staff training and development. We are proud to be one of a very small number of charities to have achieved the Investors in People Bronze accreditation.
