Objetive: To announce the scholarships granted by the Ministry of National Education and Religious Affairs to foreign citizens, who wish to attend undergraduate or postgraduate studies at Universities of our country or a research project at Universities or Research Centres of our country during the academic year 2009-20010, as well as the summer seminars in Greek Language and Civilization for the summer of 2009. The selection of the candidates will be conducted by the academic authorities of the School of Arts of the University of Jordan. The Ambassador of Greece in Jordan or his/her representative will participate in the procedure of the candidates selection. d) Two (2) scholarships for a full course of undergraduate studies, of twelve (12) months duration each to Jordan citizens of Greek descent. These scholarships include the renewals of those already studying. The candidates will be selected by the relevant authorities of the Jordan Ministry of Higher (University) Education. The Ambassador of Greece in Jordan or his/her representative will participate in the procedure of the candidates selection. e) Two (2) scholarships for a full course of undergraduate studies, of twelve (12) months duration each to Jordan Christians. These scholarships include the renewals of those already studying. The candidates will be selected by the relevant authorities of the Jordan Ministry of Higher (University) Education. postgraduate studies or research during the program for specialization of professors/ teachers in the sector of new technologies and teaching (didactic) methodology. 14. IRAQ a) Two (2) scholarships for postgraduate studies leading to the award of a doctoral degree, of up to two (2) years each. These scholarships include the renewals of those already studying. b) Two (2) scholarships for attendance of a summer seminar in 15. CHINA a) Two (2) scholarships for undergraduate studies of twelve (12) months duration each at University Departments. These scholarships include both the initial ones and the renewals. It should be noted hereto that the Chinese are obliged to complete their undergraduate studies in Greece and that they should choose in advance the Department of the university in which they are interested after the first year of the Greek language. b) Two (2) scholarships for undergraduate studies of twelve (12)
months duration each at Departments of Technological Educational Institutions (TEI). These scholarships include both the initial ones and the renewals. It should be noted hereto that the Chinese are obliged to complete their undergraduate studies in Greece and that they should choose in advance the Department of the university in which they are interested after the first year of the Greek language. c) Three (3) scholarships for postgraduate studies or research of ten (10) months duration each. Financial allowances to undergraduate and postgraduate scholars a) Monthly allowance: 500 Euros for the scholars who attend undergraduate studies and 550 Euros for the scholars who attend postgraduate studies or research. The scholars whose scholarship is being renewed are not entitled to this amount. c) A lump sum of 150 Euros for the coverage of transportation expenses inside the country to those students or researchers who are obliged to travel from their place of residence in order to carry out the approved by our Service research program and as long as there is a justified proposal by the supervising Professor. d) Exemption from tuition fees for postgraduate studies. e) It is clarified that the scholars for postgraduate studies or research, in case that they wish to attend also courses of Greek language are not exempted from the tuition fees. They are also obliged to choose postgraduate programs offered without tuition fees from the list they will find at www.ypepth.gr/en ec category1126.htm with the indication State Budget. In case - 14 - that their choice is not included in the free programs they should cover their tuition fees themselves. f) Free of charge medical care in case of emergency and only in Public Hospitals. General The persons concerned should address themselves to the authorities of their countries that are competent to collect the applications and to select the recommended candidates. The recommendations of the competent authorities of each country, together with the recommended candidates' files, should arrive to our Service until 30 th April 2009 the latest possible. Our Service shall notify to the competent authorities the decision of approval of the scholarship for the recommended persons until 30 th June 2009 the latest possible. (on condition that the candidates files are complete). Terms of scholarships for postgraduate studies or research These scholarships are meant for University graduates who wish to attend postgraduate studies or conduct a research project in Greek Universities or in Greek Research Centres of recognized level. The scholars may use their scholarship only for the period of the specific academic year for which the scholarship is granted. The above scholarships may not be renewed for a period longer than one (1) year for the same scholar, for postgraduate studies, and two (2) years when it is about the award of a PhD Degree. The renewal of the scholarship of the already scholar is made upon application of the interested party to his country, which is competent to recommend the renewal for the said scholar to our Service in due time. The renewal of the scholarship does not have as a result the increase of the total number of scholarships offered by Greece, as fixed by the cultural programs. Each scholar shall be obliged, during his entire scholarship, to be in Greece and devote himself exclusively to the carrying out of the program of studies that he has submitted and was approved of by our Service. After the end of the scholarship, every scholar shall submit to our Service a detailed report on his studies or the research that he conducted, as well as a certificate by the supervising professor - 16 - concerning his research. In the opposite case a refund of the scholarship money shall be demanded. Terms of scholarships for undergraduate studies For the scholars who are about to attend a full course of undergraduate studies in Greece it is justified the granting of scholarship for one (1) academic year initially, in order to attend courses of Greek language, and to be prepared for the final exams of language learning, which they have to pass successfully. In case of failure in the exams, the scholarship is interrupted automatically and the scholar is obliged to return to his country of origin. In case of successful examinations, a scholarship for a full course of undergraduate studies is granted renewed annually. - 17 - During the first year of his/her stay here the scholar is placed at a Department of a Greek University or TEI (Technological Educational Institution), according to the list of preference he/she has filled in, in his application of scholarship (see a) Supporting documents for undergraduate studies). Therefore no change of Department is allowed by a new application of the scholar during the period of his/her studies, unless particularly serious reasons occur and if these reasons are ratified by a relevant document of the competent services of the sending part. It should be noted that after the first year of successful attendance of the subjects of Greek language, the scholar files personally the required supporting documents for his enrolment with the Department of his choice, and for this reason he should carry with him certified copies of all original and translate supporting documents that he will file with our Service. Our Service approves the granting of the scholarship and in communication with the Directorate of Exams Organization and Conduct ensures positions at the university departments having as criterion the scholars preferences and the existing vacant positions. The Directorate of Exams Organization and Conduct issues a decision with the names and the Departments of enrolment of the foreigner scholars (usually in October) which is sent to the universities and fixes the dates of enrolment of the above named foreigners with the universities. A scholarship for a full course of undergraduate studies shall be granted for a period of time equal to that required according to the program of studies of the school of attendance, as minimum duration - 18 - for the award of the degree. The scholar has the potentiality to apply for extension of his scholarship and beyond the provided time limit of attendance, but not for a period of time more than one-half of the minimum duration for a degree to be awarded. The application is filed annually from May till the end of June directly to our Service, which decides for the approval or dismissal of the application for renewal. Each scholar student, is obliged to file until 30 th April 2009 to our Service a detailed certificate of studies ( transcript ) from which to ensue that the student has passed a sufficient number of courses, in accordance with the program of studies of the department that he/she attends. In case of nonsatisfactory progress his scholarship shall not be renewed. More particularly, as satisfactory performance is meant the successful examination of the 50% minimum compulsory or elective subjects required by the detailed program of Studies of the Department or of the School of Attendance.
