ASIAN ARTS The Asian arts have been object of fascination and admiration in the Western world for centuries. The silks of China and India, Taiwanese porcelain, lacquers from Japan and jade and ivory jewelry and ornaments have featured among the treasures of wealthy and powerful throughout the world. Asian arts objects are often considered mysterious and exotic. They have been collected and displayed in palaces and homes, listened to and looked at in theaters and on DVD. Over the last hundred years the study of Asian arts has grown significantly. Also the study of (early) arts education has grown over the last fifty years. Young children are more and more seen as discoverers, researchers, artists, entrepreneurs and scientist. Children are predisposed executing several art forms. The question is how we, as adults, can create environments that make it possible for children to explore their capacities. In this international course on Asian Arts in Early Childhood Education students get the opportunity to explore their own capacities and learn to stimulate young children through the arts.
