1 Introduction mstore is a client/server application which utilises a Microsoft SQL Server database and image file repository. Below is a list of the current supported operating systems, applications and hardware configurations which are required to run and host the application. The information provided in this document is designed as an overview. If you have any queries on the suitability of your equipment please get in touch with your account manager or the technical team if you have a support agreement. Both the client and server hosting the application must run Microsoft.Net 2 (sp2). The software is able to run on both 32 bit and 64 bit environments in 32 bit mode, including client/server and SQL. The server side application deployment is capable of being split across multiple servers with the SQL database and image shares being hosted on different servers. This allows the installation to be quite flexible depending on the business requirements. The hosting server operating system can be virtualised as both Hyper-V and VMware are supported. To ensure the security of the information stored within mstore no system user has direct access to any of the raw data that has been stored within mstore. For users to view any data the application utilises an IIS website which is normally hosted on the mstore application server. This website is purely used internally to the local network for the application to have secure access to the stored information. The end-users are unaware of this background process when using the software. The client software can be installed locally on users PCs or run in an emulation environment running MS Terminal server, MS RDS, Citrix and Sunray Clients running on the MS platform. Page 3 of 8
2 mstore Software & Hardware Requirements Guide 2.1 mstore Client Software & Hardware mstore client software Operating systems: Windows 7 (recommended) Vista Windows XP (sp2 or later) On the client mstore can also allow the users to index Office documents and emails direct via the System Tray utility. This feature is compatible with the following Microsoft Office versions: Office 2010 Office 2007 Office 2003 The mstore client is best displayed at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and above. mstore client hardware Minimum specification: 2Ghz processor or above 1Gb RAM 500Mb available disk space As an overview, the approximate memory usage is shown below for the mstore client running on a pc or per session within a terminal server environment: After first start-up ~ 130mb Idle ~ 22mb Minimised ~ 4mb Each open search ~ +8mb Each open document ~ +8mb Page 4 of 8
2.2 mstore Server Software & Hardware mstore Server Software Operating Systems: Windows Server 2008 R2 (recommended) Windows Server 2008 Windows Server 2003 The backend server also requires IIS to host the Secure Delivery internal website and SQL Server to host the database with the following version: Internet Information Systems (IIS): 7.5 (recommended) 7 6 (32bit o/s only) Microsoft SQL Server SQL 2012 (recommended) SQL 2008 R2 SQL 2008 SQL 2005 Any edition of SQL Enterprise, Standard, Workgroup or SQL Express is supported although we would only recommend SQL Express for small systems. The IIS Secure Delivery website, Microsoft SQL and the mstore application shares can all be hosted on different servers if required. If you do have any specific requirements or are in any way unsure of which servers are the most suitable to host the mstore application please get in touch with your account manager or the technical team if you have a support agreement. The mstore Sweep, Capture and Message modules, that run as a backend service on the server to process email data or OCR office documents, require either of the following Microsoft Office versions to be installed Office 2010 Office 2007 Page 5 of 8
mstore Server Hardware Recommendations for up to 50,000 pages: 1 or 2 Intel Xeon processors 4Gb RAM RAID 1 or RAID 5 5Gb available disk space Recommendations for up to 1,000,000 pages: 2 or 4 Intel Xeon processors 18Gb RAM 64bit operating system RAID 5 70Gb available disk space Recommendations for up to 10,000,000 pages: 4 Intel Xeon processors 24Gb RAM 64 bit operating system RAID 5 1Tb available disk space Please consult Arena for requirements and best practices in environments with more than 1,000,000 documents. We can estimate that there are approximately 3,750 sheets per standard filing cabinet drawer. So, for example, based on the lower amount of 50,000 documents and making the assumption that one third of documents are double-sided, this volume would equate to 10 full drawers. The amount of disk space that will be required will vary depending on the documents stored but, as a guide, the above estimates are based on 60% TIF documents, 20% PDF documents, and 20% other types of documents, with each document containing on average 2 pages. The average file size of these documents is assumed at TIF 50kb, PDF 75kb and other 100kb. Page 6 of 8
3 mstore Web Software & Hardware Requirements Guide 3.1 mstore Web Client Software & Hardware mstore Web Client Software Operating systems: Windows 7 (recommended) Vista Windows XP (sp2 or later) The current version of mstore Web is supported on the following versions of Microsoft Internet Explorer: IE 9 IE 8 IE 7 mstore Web Client Hardware We would recommend that the client machine running IE meets and exceeds the minimum hardware requirements for the client operating system. As a guide we would recommend that the client specification meets or exceeds: 2Ghz processor or above 1Gb RAM 500Mb available disk space The mstore Website is best displayed at a minimum screen resolution of 1024 x 768 and above. 3.2 mstore Web Server Software & Hardware The mstore Website is intended to be installed as an additional module to the core mstore deployment. To host the mstore Website and image cache on its own dedicated server it must follow the guidelines below. mstore Web Server Software Operating Systems: Windows Server 2008 R2 (recommended) Windows Server 2008 Windows Server 2003 To host the mstore Website the backend server requires Microsoft.Net 3.5 (Sp1 or later) and IIS with the following versions: Internet Information Systems (IIS): 7.5 (recommended) 7 6 (32bit o/s only) mstore Web Server Hardware Recommendations for small systems up to 50,000 pages / ~ 10 concurrent users: 1 or 2 Intel Xeon processors 8Gb RAM RAID 1 or RAID 5 6.5Gb available disk space Recommendations for medium systems up to 1,000,000 pages / ~ 100 current users: 2 or 4 Intel Xeon processors 24Gb RAM 64bit operating system RAID 5 85Gb available disk space Recommendations for large systems up to 10,000,000 pages / ~ 150 current users: 4 Intel Xeon processors 32Gb RAM 64 bit operating system RAID 5 1.2Tb available disk space Please consult Arena for requirements and best practices in environments with more than 1,000,000 documents as well as solutions with 100 current web users or expected intense usage scenarios. To improve the performance of the mstore Web documents are cached on the website hosting server. The above free disk calculations are only estimates and the actual amount of disk space required for the Web cache document files will depend on the usage of the system. Page 8 of 8
