Analysis of Core Content Knowledge Curriculum s B.S. Elementary Education K-6 1. A brief description of the assessment and its use in the program (one sentence may be sufficient); William Carey University s School of Education has been approved by the Mississippi Department of Education (MDE) for B.S. in Elementary Education (K-6 th grades). The MDE has formulated the core content curriculum which all candidates must complete a minimum G.P.A. of 2.75 across 44 hours. Since the School of Education has included Health Education, the G.P.A. will be calculated at 47 hours. These candidates are well grounded in the content areas they will teach in the elementary school. The candidates are evaluated on the basis of their content knowledge in the core curriculum required by the university. This includes 6 credits English language arts (ACEI 2.1), 6 credits of literature; (ACEI 2.1), 11 credits of science (ACEI 2.2), 3 credits of mathematics (ACEI 2.3), 12 credits of social studies (including Psychology) (ACEI 2.4), 3 credits of fine arts (ACEI 2.5), and 3 credits of Physical Education and Health (ACEI 2.6/2.7).
