Migrating documents from Business Objects Reporter to Web Intelligence XI R2 1. This document describes how to migrate documents from Business Objects Reporter to Web Intelligence documents. They can then be viewed, edited and refreshed in InfoView as well. 2. This is a summary of the steps: Step 1: Convert the BO reporter document into a Desktop Intelligence document and assign an updated universe Step 2: Load the new Desktop Intelligence document into InfoView Step 3: Convert the Desktop Intelligence document into a Web Intelligence document Step 1: Converting BO Reporter documents to Desktop Intelligence It is possible that locally held Business Objects Reporter files may contain references to universes that are no longer in use e.g. agg or circ. When these reports are opened and refreshed in Desktop Intelligence an error is displayed indicating that a universe cannot be found. To address this issue the following steps should be taken: 1. Create a backup copy of the Business Objects Reporter document in the file system. This is so that if you need to look at the old version you still have a copy. 2. Login to Desktop Intelligence. 3. Make sure you login as a user who can access the Migration universes. (i.e. you can see the contents of the Migration folder when creating a new Web Intelligence document.) 3. Open a BusinessObjects reporter report in Desktop Intelligence. It will indicate that the report will be updated. Click OK to continue. 4. Click on the View Data icon or select Data View Data from the menu bar. TE-RM-601-01 Page 1
4. The Data Manager will be displayed. 5. Click on the Definition tab. The universe name will be displayed, for the highlighted query on the left. 6. Click on the icon at the Universe: field. A list of Universes will be displayed. 6. 5. TN-MB-001-01 Page 2
7. 7. Select the Universe you wish to use. In this example the new version of the Agg universe is called Loan Aggregates so this should be selected. Click the OK button. 8. The universe name will then be updated. You will also see the Name field has been updated. The value is incorrect but does not need to be updated except for clarity e.g. Query 1 with Loan Loan Aggregatesregates could be renamed to Query 1 with Loan Aggregates. 9. 8. 9. Repeat the process for changing the universe for any other queries in the Data Providers list by highlighting the query in the list to start with and then changing the Universe selected. 10. Once all queries have been updated click on OK to close the Data Manager. 11. Refreshing the document should now be successful. Save the updated report as required. Step 2: Loading Desktop Intelligence documents into InfoView Once the Business Objects Reporter documents have been converted to Desktop Intelligence Xi documents you need to load them into InfoView. 1. Create a backup copy of the Desktop Intelligence Xi document. Note: You need to create a backup copy of the Desktop Intelligence document to be loaded into InfoView because, after the document has been saved to InfoView, a link remains between the document on your local disk and the document in InfoView. If you delete the document in InfoView you will not be able to open the document on your local disk. By creating a backup copy before the file is loaded into InfoView you have a copy of the document that is still accessible via Desktop Intelligence even if you delete the InfoView version. 2. Open the document in Desktop Intelligence 3. From the File menu select the option to Export to Repository. 4. 6. Click OK to close the pop-up. Step 3: Converting a Desktop Intelligence document into a Web Intelligence one Once the document has been loaded into the repository you could convert it to Web Intelligence format. Note: this process is not always successful depending on whether the document uses functionality in Desktop Intelligence that isn t present in Web Intelligence or it has edited SQL. 1. Launch the Report Conversion Tools from Start All Programs BusinessObjects XI Release 2 BusinessObjects Enterprise Report Conversion Tool. The Login box will be displayed. 2. Enter the login details and click OK. It is advisable to use the machine name in the System box rather than the cluster name. The option to convert files or run an audit is then displayed. 3. Ensure the Convert and publish reports, then create an audit report option is selected. An audit report will not be generated. 4. Click on the Next button. The Selected reports pop-up appears. The Publish Reports screen appears. TN-MB-001-01 Page 6
8. It is now possible to see further details about how the reports have been converted. De-select any reports not to be published and then click on the Publish button to continue. A window will show the progress of the reports as they are published into InfoView. Note: It is possible that some reports may not be converted and details will be provided of the problems. It is also possible that a report may only be partially converted. Again details will be provided for such reports. 9. Click on the Close button to close the window. The Audit this Conversion Session window appears. TN-MB-001-01 Page 7
10. Select the No, I am finished and I do not want an audit report option. 11. Click the Next button to continue. Note: If you do select the audit option without setting up the database then you will get an error relating to the database connection. Click the Close button on the error display. The conversion process should still complete successfully. 12. The Finished screen is displayed. 13. Click on Quit to close the tool. If the Save the conversion result in log file tick box is selected before selecting Quit, then a log file will be created in \Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 11.5\Logging. The log will have a name similar to ReportConversionTool130607_0913.log. TN-MB-001-01 Page 8
The View log option is only available where an audit report was created. 14. Check in InfoView to see the converted report/s. The original Desktop Intelligence report will still be present on the PC. Refresh the report/s now or via a scheduled job to check that the conversion to Web Intelligence reports was successful. TN-MB-001-01 Page 9
