Grammar: Present simple, frequency adverbs and word order Functions: describing habits and routines; asking for and giving personal information; talking about abilities Vocabulary: music and musicians Phonetics: pronunciation of can / can't This unit introduces the main topic (music) and revises the aforementioned structures by means of describing the everyday life and abilities of the young members of a music band. The structure of the unit is as follows: PART 1 - Dan's daily life 1 Listen and read: In this exercise, students must listen and read about Dan's everyday life by clicking on the CD icons to listen to the dialogue. Remind them to use the dictionary if they need to check new words. 2 Match sentences with pictures: Next, students must match the sentences with the picture on the right. They will do this by dragging the chosen sentence into the space provided for this purpose under each picture. They must click verify once finished all the sentences (nine on the whole). 3 Record Dan's words: In this exercise, students must click on the icon and listen to Dan's sentences, then record them in their own voice and finally listen to the whole text. In order to listen to all the text they must click on the multiple CD icon. 4 Write sentences: Here students must rewrite the sentences given as negatives under the pictures. 5 Order words in a sentence: Next, students must tidy up the words given to make correct interrogative, negative or affirmative sentences in the present simple. Note they can listen to the sentence correctly ordered if they need some extra help by clicking on the CD icon on the left. Also note that there are three screens. 6 Interview Dan: In this exercise, students must complete the questions they would ask Dan if they were interviewing him. 7 Write an e-mail: In this exercise, students must answer the questions about themselves writing them in the space provided for this purpose, then they can click on the microphone and record their answers, which they can listen to afterwards if they click on play. They may repeat the recording if they want to and finally click on the envelope to write an e-mail to their teacher.
PART 2 - Anna's hobby 1 Learn vocabulary: In this exercise, students must look at the pictures and read the names of the musical instruments represented in the pictures. They have one minute to learn them. Then, on the second screen, they must write the names under the pictures. 2 Match people with names: Next, students must identify the people in the picture by listening to the description given. 3 Puzzle: In this exercise, students must make the puzzle by dragging the pieces into the correct place with the help of the audio, which they can listen to by clicking on the CD. 4 Order text: By clicking on the CD, students listen to the dialogue between Anna, -the singer in Dan's band- and a TV reporter, and put the sentences in order, dragging them to their correct place on the right. 5 Fill gaps: Next, students must fill in the gaps in the sentences given using the verbs above. 6 True/false sentences: In this exercise, students must listen to the dialogue again and decide if the sentences given are true or false. 7 Write about Anna's day: Here, students must write about Ana using the third person singular and the information they have previously heard. PART 3 - What can I do? 1 Click and read: In this exercise, students must click on the characters and listen to their abilities, that's to say, things they can or cannot do. As extra help, when they do so, the screen shows the text. 2 Match actions with pictures: Next, students must decide which of the actions represented in the pictures match the activities on the right by dragging the expressions under the pictures. There are two screens. 3 Write sentences: Now students are shown some pictures of people doing different activities. They must place the mouse on top of the pictures to know the name of the people, and then write sentences in the boxes telling what they can do. If they click the Task button, they will see the first sentence as an example. 4 Can /can't: In this exercise, students become familiar with the correct pronunciation of can and can't. First they click on the icons to listen to the sounds and model sentences including them and then they practise by filling the chart given underneath which describes the kind of things the people mentioned can or cannot do.
5 Fill a questionnaire: In this exercise, students must answer the questions by dragging the "yes" or "no" symbols to the boxes and write a paragraph using that information plus two more sentences. Then they may click on the microphone and record their answers, and then play to listen to themselves. PART 4 - Consolidation 1 A British pop band: Here, students must read the file about the British pop band Oasis and select the correct endings to the statements in each case by clicking on their choice. Please note there are six screens, and they won't be corrected until they are all answered. 2 Memory game: In this exercise, students play the traditional memory game. They have to match the pictures of musical instruments with their names by showing the correct pair. 3 Crossword: This is a revision crossword. Students fill in the gaps using the words they would use to complete the sentences given. Then they can verify. They can also click on the key icon to see the solution if they think it's too difficult.
