1 Introduction This document explains how to backup your Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 database and restore it from a file-level backup to the same machine. This enables reverting the database to a specific date and time. Tip In order to recover from a total loss or to restore the Exchange Server database to a different machine, perform a bare-metal backup and restore. 2 Backing Up and Restoring Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Using CTERA Agent in Appliance Mode If your CTERA Agent is connected to a CTERA appliance, use the following procedures to backup and restore your Exchange Server database. Backing Up Microsoft Exchange Server To back up Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 database 1 Right-click on the CTERA Agent tray icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar, and then click Settings. If you are prompted for a username-password authentication, enter your credentials. The CTERA Agent Manager opens displaying the Control Panel tab. 2 Click the File-level backup tab. The Control Panel tab appears. 8 Click Go. The Microsoft Exchange Server is backed up. Restoring Microsoft Exchange Server Tip This procedure is supported when restoring to the same instance. Tip This procedure explains how to restore the entire mailbox datasbase. Brick-level add-on is also available for performing brick-level restore. Backing Up and Restoring Microsoft Exchange Server 2010 Using CTERA Agent in Appliance Mode 2 A confirmation message appears. d Click Yes. 2 Open My Computer, navigate to the relevant mailbox database directory, and either delete all of its content or copy its content to a different location. By default, mailbox databases are located at C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\mailbox-name, where mailbox-name is the name of the mailbox database. 3 Restore data from the CTERA Agent, by doing the following: a Right-click on the CTERA Agent tray icon in the notification area of the Windows taskbar, and then click Restore. The CTERA Agent Manager opens displaying the Restore tab. b Next to the file-level-backup from which you would like to restore the database, click Restore. The Exchange Management Console window opens. b In the left pane, click on the + icon to expand the Organization Configuration node, and then click on Mailbox. c In the lower central pane, select the mailbox database that you want to restore, then in the right pane click Mount Database.
