Regional Backbone Regional-spread fibre optic backbone for: Internet Exchange Innovation and Technological transfer RUPAR Evolution Links strategic points on Piedmont Territory: 11 nodes About 1000 km of fibre-optic Official Start November 2006
DWDM Technology Light splitting inside fibre optic in distinct frequencies (colors or lambda λ) Each color is a 2,5 or 10 Gb circuit By link-aggregation we can grow capacity on the fibre (scalability) It allows to transmit over long distance DWDM Fibre optic DWDM λ1 λ2 Single Fibre (different λ ) λ n
SDH Technology Allows to aggregate on logical circuits with different speed and features (multiple of 155 Mb on a single link) Max aggregation capacity: 10 Gb Allows to reach long distance (with amplifiers) Reliability (recovery in less than 50 ms.) ATM Fibre optic or lambda WDM GbEth Fast Ethernet Frame Relay
RPR Technology RPR (Resilient Packet Ring) defines a Layer 2 protocol for multiservice networks with ring topologies. Features: Ring Bandwidth: 2,5 Gb Physic level independent (Ethernet, SDH, WDM) Ring protection < 50 ms Provides Traffic Management and QoS Multicast enabled natively bandwidth optimization
