76 Business INTRODUCTION AND RESOURCES Today s managers need to keep one step ahead of the rapid changes in the business environment. The wide range of skills possessed by a well-trained manager are in high demand across all commercial industries and service organisations. Successful managers are equipped with communications skills, a good grasp of financial planning techniques, the ability to manage change and a sound understanding of marketing and product development. A career in business management can be extremely lucrative for those with a solid educational background. Resources A newly resourced business management suite of rooms is the central location for management studies. The Business degree courses and the new Foundation degree provides opportunities for students to develop as potential managers in all industries. The interactive boards and internet access in the business suite brings the world of industry and commerce into the learning and teaching environment. Current management issues can be discussed as they develop rather than just being considered as dated information. Supply chain and marketing scenarios can be demonstrated with the use of technology as well as visits to the physical sites. Business Links The College offers a range of business services, which attract employers from far and wide for conferences, courses and seminars. These close links with business allow students access to a wide range of materials for visits, case studies and applied project work. Students use a range of dedicated business and accounting software for lectures and projects within the College. Business students also benefit from the College s associations with major external business organisations. Ordinary degree awards focus on central areas of vocational education but include a range of optional modules to give flexibility in the second and third years. These programmes are aimed to produce practitioners in the associated industries with a range of technical and employability skills. Tutors are there to guide students in their selection of optional modules and create a distinctive programme in line with career goals and interests. Each applicant will be considered on merit. Whilst academic qualifications such as A levels, National Diplomas and HNCs will be considered, enthusiasm, experience and commitment are just as important. Progression The opportunity exists to progress to the BA Business, BA (Hons) Business or the BSc (Hons) and Supply Chain This course aims to develop graduates with an appropriate balance of academic understanding, specialist subject knowledge and core transferable skills.
