Onsite Teaching Facilities RBWH Education The Edwin M Tooth Auditorium is a large lecture theatre equipped with the latest audio-visual equipment and teleconference facilities to link with other Queensland Health sites. The Auditorium also includes a hearing loop audio system for the hearing impaired. There are two additional seminar rooms equipped with the same technology as the auditorium, meaning that presentations from the Auditorium can be relayed. These rooms can be used independently or can be combined into one large seminar room. The main foyer and terrace provides a social space, with two large plasma screens to view and hear presentations in the Auditorium. for Clinical Nursing (CCN) The for Clinical Nursing building provides facilities dedicated for nursing and midwifery education. The well-equipped teaching and learning rooms are found on Level 1, the Workforce Development and Education Unit administration on Level 2 and a clinical practice area primarily used for mandatory training and clinical skills acquisition is located on Level 3. The Nursing Precinct for Nursing and Midwifery Services is also located on Level 1. This area is the primary venue for meetings and professional nursing and midwifery activities. 16

The Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital prides itself on being able to provide excellent education facilities to cater for the educational and training needs of the hospital community. There are 11 formal education venues on campus. Located on Level 5 of the for Clinical Nursing is the Academic Nursing, which is a collaborative enterprise between the Queensland University of Technology School of Nursing and the Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital Nursing Services. The provides the resources of an academic unit of the University with the specialty clinical practice fields of the hospital. This is a unique combination that facilitates delivery of clinical education for undergraduate and postgraduate students and higher degree research training in clinically relevant research. QUT Academic Nursing The Health Sciences Building has in recent years undergone a major refurbishment, transforming it into a world-class teaching and learning facility. The building now offers space for the School of Medicine, with the Royal Brisbane Clinical School and the School of Nursing and Midwifery occupying the majority of the teaching and learning spaces in the building. Other occupants of the building include the for Medical Officer Recruitment and Education (CMORE) for the RBWH and the CSIRO e-health Initiative. UQ Health Sciences Building 17

Onsite Teaching Facilities University of Queensland Integrated Pathology Learning (IPLC) The UQ Integrated Pathology Learning (IPLC) which is located on Level 6 of UQ Health Sciences Building, is both a museum and a learning centre. It brings together the collections of the James Vincent Duhig Pathology Museum including more than 2,500 specimens, the Marks Hirschfield Medical History Collection and the Nursing Museum. The collection is more than 70 years old and plays a critical role in the education of UQ medical students, staff and allied health workers. The integrates historical, clinical, radiological and pathological processes, using the latest electronic resources. It takes students on a journey from past to present and from cells to patients so that they can gain a complete understanding of diseases. The includes state-of-the-art teaching rooms, mock hospital wards and clinical bedside coaching rooms. There is a curator and technician to manage the collection in conjunction with the medical staff of the Discipline of Molecular and Cellular Pathology. 18

The primary role of the for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE) is to improve statewide palliative care services in Queensland through research and education. The CPCRE operates as a centre without walls to build and foster partnerships with the palliative-care community. The CPCRE is administered by the Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital (Lead Agency), The Prince Charles Hospital, Queensland University of Technology, Karuna Hospice Service and General Practice Queensland. for Palliative Care Research and Education (CPCRE) The Herston Health Sciences Library provides resources and services to support the needs of University of Queensland staff and students, as well as hospital staff located on the Herston site. The University, the Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital and the Royal Children s Hospital jointly fund the Herston Health Sciences Library. The Herston Health Sciences Library has a comprehensive collection and also houses the Otto Hirschfeld Collection an important collection of historical medical books and papers. Onsite Teaching Facilities Clinical Skills Development The Clinical Skills Development Service (CSDS) is a Queensland Health facility located on the Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital campus. It is the one of the world s largest providers of healthcare simulation. The CSDS delivers education and training to Queensland Health staff and external healthcare providers at the Skills Development and statewide. It supports simulation sites across Queensland through training of local educators and provision of simulation and audio visual equipment. (www.sdc.qld.edu.au) RBWH Computer Training The Royal Brisbane and Women s Hospital Computer Training provides desktop training services in Computers in the Workplace, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft PowerPoint. Training is provided in the standard Queensland Health endorsed applications such as HBCIS, AusCare, Web 1000 (PACS), GroupWise and QHEPS. There are five rooms equipped with Smart Boards, ceiling mounted projectors connected to a dedicated trainer s PC, printer and electronic whiteboard seating 8-10 participants. 20

The Occupational Violence Prevention Training is a purpose-built training facility relocated from an off-site facility in October of 2011. The Training consists of a physical skills development room and a fully equipped lecture room designed specifically for OVP training. The accommodates an average of 400 students per month. RBWH Occupational Violence Prevention Training The Patient Support Services (PSS) Training is equipped to meet the training needs of PSS. This area includes a functional lecture room and kitchenette.
