Colorfly Tablet Upgrade Guide (PhoenixSuit) 1. Downloading the Firmware and Upgrade Tool 1. Visit the official website http://www.colorful.cn/, choose 产 品 > 数 码 类 > 平 板 电 脑, and click the product to be upgraded. On the product page, click the 下 载 tab. 2. Click and download the firmware package (on the left of the area) and the upgrade tool package (on the right of the area). 3. Save the packages to a local disk on the PC. NOTE: The English website is being constructed. Therefore, currently, you can download the firmware and upgrade tool only on the Chinese website. 2. Installing the Upgrade Tool and Device Driver 2.1. Installing the Upgrade Tool Double-click to start the PhoenixSuit installation program. Follow the installation wizard to install the upgrade tool. NOTE: Driver installation may be required during the installation. If the following dialog box is displayed, click Next. Page 1 of 10
2.2. Installing the Device Driver NOTE: The driver is stored in the USBDriver folder that is generated after you decompress the upgrade tool package. During the driver installation, select the i386 folder if your PC runs on a 32-bit operation system; select the amd64 folder if your PC runs on a 64-bit operating system. In Windows 7 After you connect the tablet to a PC, the system automatically checks whether the corresponding device driver is installed. If yes, you do not need to install the device driver. If no, the system instructs you to install the device driver. Install the device driver as prompted. 在 Windows XP 中 : You need to install the device driver when you use the tablet for the first time. 1. Hold down the Power button of the tablet till the Power off option is displayed. Select Power off. 2. Hold down the Power button and connect the tablet to your PC. After the driver installation page is displayed, select Install from a list or specific location (Advanced) and click Next. 3. Click Browse to select the corresponding driver folder from the USBDriver folder and click Next to install the device driver. 4. After the installation is complete, click Finish. 3. Upgrading the Tablet 3.1. Preparations Back up data from the tablet to your PC (Connect the tablet to your PC and copy data to the PC). Ensure that the battery power is sufficient, to prevent upgrade failure due to power insufficiency. The power higher than 80% is recommended. Download the firmware and upgrade tool packages to the local PC and decompress the packages. Install the device driver. Ensure the device driver is successfully installed. NOTE: If you are not sure whether the driver is successfully installed, perform the following operations to update the driver: 1. Right-click My computer icon on the PC desktop and choose Properties. 2. Click Device Manager from the navigation area on the left. 3. In the displayed window, expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, right-click your device, and choose Update Driver Software. 4. In the displayed dialog box, choose Browse my computer for driver software. 5. Select the corresponding driver folder to complete the update. 3.2. Upgrade Process 3.2.1. Upgrading the Tablet When It Is Turned Off NOTE: Currently for the upgrade tool, only the Chinese version is available. Perform the upgrade based on this upgrade guide. 1. Click to open the upgrade tool. The tool page is as follows. 2. Click (one-click upgrade) to enter the upgrade mode. Click (Browse) and select the firmware package. Page 3 of 10
3. After selecting the firmware package, insert included USB cable to your PC, and perform the following operation based on the actual situation: If the tablet has the Volume up physical button, hold down Volume up and insert the other end of the USB cable into the tablet USB port. If the tablet has the Home physical button but not the Volume up physical button, hold down the Home button and insert the other end of the USB cable into the tablet USB port. 4. After the following dialog box is displayed, select whether to format the storage device during the upgrade. (Yes): to upgrade the tablet in formatting mode. Data will be deleted. (No): to upgrade the tablet in common mode. User data will be reserved. It is recommended that you back up all required data and click (Yes), to Page 4 of 10
prevent program or data errors after the upgrade. 5. After the upgrade is complete, click 确 定 (OK). NOTE: Do not disconnect the tablet from your PC during the upgrade, to protect the tablet from damage. 3.2.2. Upgrading the Tablet When It Is Turned On 1. Click to open the upgrade tool. The tool page is as follows. 2. Connect the tablet to your PC. Enable USB debugging (Choose Settings > Developer options, and select USB debugging). NOTE: This upgrade tool can process only one intelligent device at a time. Do not connect multiple devices with the adb connection enabled to the PC at a time. After detecting the device, the tool page display a message indicating that the connection is successful, as shown in the following figure. Page 5 of 10
3. Click (one-click upgrade) to enter the upgrade mode. Click (Browse) and select the firmware package. 4. After selecting the firmware package, click (upgrade immediately), and click (yes) in the displayed dialog box. 5. After the following dialog box is displayed, select whether to format the storage device during the upgrade. Page 6 of 10
(Yes): to upgrade the tablet in formatting mode. Data will be deleted. (No): to upgrade the tablet in common mode. User data will be reserved. It is recommended that you back up all required data and click prevent program or data errors after the upgrade. 6. After the upgrade is complete, click 确 定 (OK). (Yes), to NOTE: Do not disconnect the tablet from your PC during the upgrade, to protect the tablet from damage. 4. Device Management Besides upgrade operations, the PhoenixSuit can be used for device management such as one-click backup for APK files on the device, one-click restoration based on backed up APK files, installation of APK files in batches, device restart, and switch to recovery mode. Click (device management) to enter the device management module. Page 7 of 10
One-click backup: Click (one-click backup). The program starts to back up the installed APK applications on the device. To stop the backup, click 取 消 (cancel), as shown in the following figure. After the backup is complete, the dialog box shown in the following is displayed. APK applications are backed up to the corresponding device module folder in PhoenixSuit\Backup\ in the My document folder. One-click restoration: Click (one-click restoration). You can restore the backed up APK applications to the tablet. To stop the restoration, click 取 消 (cancel), as shown in the following figure. After the restoration is complete, the dialog box shown in the following is displayed. Page 8 of 10
Batch installation: Click (batch installation). In the dialog box that appears, select one or more APK files to be installed, as shown in the following figure. To stop the installation, click 取 消 (cancel), as shown in the following figure. Page 9 of 10
Restart device: If the device does not respond, click (restart the device) to restart the device. Rstoration mode: Click (restoration mode) to switch the device to the recovery mode. If the device does not support the recovery mode, the device restarts and enters the Android mode, without posing any negative impact. Page 10 of 10
