The group was formerly known as English in the North and was established in 1994. There is a wild and natural coastline with some areas developed as popular tourist resorts. Most English UK North members are in the region s towns and cities but a few have a coastal or countryside location. There are small historic towns and cities and large, dynamic metropolitan centres that are enjoying a new prosperity. Where can I study? Dock, Liverpool Our members are accredited English language schools, colleges and universities offering a full range of English language courses. The language schools are well distributed throughout the region in the most attractive locations. There are no major concentrations of schools as occurs in some other parts of the UK. The schools, which are often small and ownermanaged, offer a surprising variety of courses. They also offer social programmes which introduce students to the region. They provide a very flexible, personal service of high quality. Our colleges are often large institutions, specialising in vocational education for British students. They have well-established English language departments offering courses to both European and international students and to UK residents who are not native speakers of English. In addition they offer opportunities for cultural, social and sporting activities. Colleges offer access to other job-related courses in, for example, Business, Technology, Travel and Tourism, Art and Design, all with English language support. Our university members are in the largest and most progressive cities in the North of England. They include some old, established universities with a long tradition of learning as well as some newer, expanding universities offering an increasing variety of non-traditional courses.
