Since its establishment on April 22, 1971, Informatics Association of Turkey (TBD) has been working for public. approved by the Council of Ministers on March 1994TBD is the oldest and the first non-governmental organization of the Country in Informatics Sector which is open for personal membership. The first mission of the TBD which has taken the role of Intellectual Leadership within the informatics area is do something about all the problems of the sector including the problems of employees working in the informatics services, Working-out for ensuring the Information Technology (IT) to be given priority when determining the national policies Creating Project Management Awareness to ensure the realization of its IT projects successfully Strengthening and develop international relations in the field of informatics Publicizing and leading the effective use of IT, one of the most important tools in increasing the efficiency, to the all segments of society.

12 INFORMATICS ASSOCIATION OF TURKEY 40 Years in informatics INFORMATICS ASSOCIATION OF TURKEY 40 Years in informatics 13 MEMBER PROFILE THE ACTIVITIES OF TBD AIMING TURKEY TO BECOME AN INFORMATION SOCIETY Information technology managers and employees Those who are working and/or publishing in the field of information processing or informatics Those who are ensuring the use of the computer technologies efficiently and commonly in the estalishment of these technologies Those who are professionally interested in the informadics and those who are adapting and being active in line with the objetives of the association TBD has a distinguished member profile consisting of those who are committed in informatics from various sectors or those whose path crosses with informatics (academicians, businessmen, politicians, information processing staff, informatics sector staff, public and private sector employees etc) as well as the members working in the informatics field Establishes working groups, doing researches on current and oncoming issues or having them done, Provides technical and scientific advises, writes reports or having them written, creates opportunities for exchange of information and cooperation Publishes technical and scientific documents Develops in-service training programs and deliver them Organizes conferences, congresses, seminars, panels etc., Organizes and attends meetings on informatics and other relevant areas at national and international level; building contacts with similar organizations Builds collaborations with similar non-governmental organizations Develops an opinion on any practice and legal arrangement on informatics, submits these to relevant people, and contributes to the developments of plans and policies

Some of the working groups are still exists today although their names have been changed. The working groups and their establishment dates are listed below. From its establishment in 1971 until today, the Informatics Association of Turkey has carried out its activities with the principle of teamwork. TBD has carried some activities through the groups called as commission, committee working group etc. has brought something new and is continuing to do so. Eskisehir Software Base was established for this purpose. The base served only for SMSs that want to operate for R&D and exportation, young entrepreneurs and multinational companies. The producers have a chance to promote their products over the web sites created on the computer in the internet cafes. With this rapidly disseminated practice everyone s great effort and labor is utilized on the internet. Women with conscious, broad vision and strong communication skills will bring better individuals in the society. TBD meets its commitments and responsibilities in this field Informatics Training for Physically Handicapped: TBD is taking on a task towards removing the barriers. National Studies The Informatics Council of Turkey (2002,2004) e-turkey works Organizing trainings for handicapped to enable them work without any physical effort with the help of technology in order to include to the life. ECDL (European Computer Certificate of Competency: TBD has started the ECDL programs for promoting the informatics literacy in our Country. This program aims the people living in the European Community Countries having the computer literacy with the same standards. The certificate is valid in all European Countries.
