The calculation of indicators has a long history and has been maintained since the 60-s of the 20 th century. It has been regularly improved throughout the years to ensure the comparability with international classifications, composition and of indicators and other standards. 0.5 Users and Application The main users of the statistical information are the state government and local self-government bodies, public, scientificeducational, financial organizations, business society, mass media, international organizations, etc. Information on film production is applied for the purpose of strategy development in the mentioned field (education), solutions of the strategic tasks, and other purposes. 0.6 Information Sources The main source of information compilation is data collected from the annual statistical reports from the institutions responsible for the post graduate education. 0.7 Legal Authority to Collect Data Data is collected based on the RA Laws On State Statistics and Three-Year State Statistical Work Program, as well as the Resolution No. 11-N of RA State Council of Statistics On

Approval of the Procedure for the Presentation of Statistical Information dated October 03, 2003, and Resolution On Approval of Annual State Statistical Work Program. 0.8 Response Burden (Primary The response burden is not measured. information providers) 1 Content 1.1 Description of Content Post graduate education comprises: a) number of higher educational institutions and scientific organizations providing post graduate education. b) number of students who entered, study, or have graduated from post graduate course by specializations, sex, free and charged and type of education (distance and stationary (full time)). c) number of post graduates who have received a scientific degree and number of those who have applied for scientific degree by professions (specializations), sex, free of charge and charged systems of education, sex, by type (stationary (full time) and distance learning). d) number of rehabilitated post graduates, number of postgraduates who are moved from other institutions, as well as the ones who are left out by sex type of education (stationary (full time) and distance learning). e) number of post graduates who are involved in post graduate education for a longer period than defined by sex, and type of education (stationary (full time) and distance learning). f) number of post graduates seeking for the degree of candidate of sciences (PhD) by sex and professions (specializations). g) number of extramural students by professions (specializations) and sex. h) number of foreign students who entered, study or graduated from post graduate educational institutions by professions, sex, and type of education (stationary (full time) and distance). i) number of higher educational or research institutions which provide doctoral education. j) the number of doctoral post graduates (students) who have entered, study or have graduated by professions, sex and type of 2

Basic Concepts Postgraduate professional education - professional education provided upon postgraduate's, researcher's, extramural student's program on the grounds of higher professional education (Master's, Diploma Specialist's); Postgraduate student - a person who has higher professional (Master's, Diploma Specialist's) education, continues education upon postgraduate educational program in the postgraduate studies and prepares a thesis with the purpose of seeking a scientific degree of Candidate of Sciences who may receive a researcher qualification degree in the result of attestation upon postgraduate professional educational program; Doctoral student - a person who has a scientific degree of a Candidate of Sciences and has applied for preparing a thesis with the purpose of seeking a scientific degree of Doctor of Sciences according to the appropriate procedure; Extramural student - a person with higher professional education (Master's or Diploma Specialist's qualification) and prepares a thesis with the purpose of seeking a scientific degree of a Candidate of Sciences without studying in the postgraduates studies, and who is attached to a postgraduate professional education providing institution according to the defined procedure; Branch Coverage The statistical data cover the activities which are classified by International Classifications of Education as well as the activities which are included in RA classifications of economic activities (group 2). 3

Groupings for Publication The information on post graduate institutions is published by specializations and sex distribution of the post graduates, free and charged education types, by full time and distance learning education forms. 2 Time 2.1 Reference Period Annual 2.2 Date of Publication Annual indicators are published in the 3 rd quarter of the year following the reference period. 2.3 Punctuality Data are published according to schedule of annual programs publication and no delays from defined deadlines have been recorded. 2.4 Frequency Annual 3 Accuracy 3.1 Overall Accuracy There are no specific quantitative evaluations related to the overall accuracy. The forms are submitted by all institutions providing post graduate education. The obligatory provision of state statistical reports by them is fixed in the legal acts regulating the statistics sector. 3.2 Sources of Inaccuracy There is no source of inaccuracy. 3.3 Measures on Accuracy/ Measurability The data of measures on accuracy submitted by organizations within the reference period of the current year is carried out by comparing them with the relevant data for the same period of the previous year. 4 Comparability 4.1 Comparability over Time Before 1998 the data (indicators) were provided in accordance with the All Union Classification of Branches of Economy (AUCOBONE). During the years 1998-2001 the 3 rd revision of the International Classifications of Branches of Economy (ISIC) was in use. Since 2002 the data are provided in accordance with 4

the Republic of Armenia classification of branches of economy (worked out by the NSS based on NACE international classificators). Since 2010 the second revision is used. 4.2 Comparability with other Statistics Comparability with other Statistics is not available. 4.3 Coherence between Provisional and Final Statistics The final data are introduced in annual publications. 5 Accessibility 5.1 Forms of Dissemination Paper form (Hard Copy) Monthly publications Social-Economic Situation of the Republic of Armenia any of the first quarterly publications (first quarter) (Armenian and Russian).
