PERSONAL PLANS GETTING STARTED GUIDE

PERSONAL PLANS: OVERVIEW 1 PERSONAL PLANS: OVERVIEW YOUR LIFE IS ON YOUR COMPUTER BACK IT UP WITH CARBONITE Carbonite takes the worry out of backup by securely and automatically backing up your important files to one of our state-of-the-art data centers, where they become your Carbonite personal cloud. Rest easy knowing the computer files you care about most like photos, music, documents and more are safe. HOW IT WORKS BACKUP Once installed, you ll never have to remember to back up again. Carbonite runs continually in the background, backing up new and changed files whenever your computer is connected to the Internet. RELAX Carbonite creates encrypted copies of your files and transmits them to one of our state-of-the-art data centers using SSL security technology. RESTORE When you need to get your files back, Carbonite walks you through an easy-to-follow process that restores your backed up files to the right place on your computer. ACCESS With Carbonite s free apps, you ll be able to sync files across all your devices, or access them from any computer, smart phone, or tablet.

GETTING STARTED 2 GETTING STARTED SET IT & FORGET IT. Simple, secure and automatic, it s no wonder Carbonite is The Better Backup Plan. TM What to expect from your initial backup: Once Carbonite has been installed on your computer, it scans your internal hard drive looking for files to back up. Because your initial backup includes so many of your files, and because most high-speed Internet connections can t back up more than 3-4 GB every 24 hours, your initial backup may take a few days. Don t worry about it it all happens in the background, and you can continue to use your computer as usual while your backup is in progress. After your first backup, future backups will only take a few minutes. That s because Carbonite only sends new and changed files to your backup. And, it happens automatically you won t need to do a thing.

GETTING STARTED 3 What does Carbonite backup? All Carbonite Personal Plans back up the following types of files in your Users folders:* Photos Documents Settings Email Music Videos** *Any file over 4 GB must be manually added to your backup. **Video files are backed up automatically with Prime. They can be added to your backup manually Basic or Plus. with Plus and Prime plans also back up: External hard drives Operating system and software programs Operating system and software programs are included in Mirror Image backup, which creates a full-system backup to a local drive.

GETTING STARTED 4 Instantly see what s backed up and what s not. Carbonite puts colored dots next to file names on your computer, letting you see at a glance which files are backed up, and which are not. On a Mac, the dots can be found inside the Carbonite Preference Pane. PC Mac File is backed up File is waiting to be backed up File is not selected for backup Some files within the folder are not being backed up Managing your backup. To back up a file that is not backed up, right click on the file and select Back this up, under the pop-up Carbonite menu. File types that are normally excluded, such as.exe,.dll or video files, can be backed up in this manner. To deselect a file that is backed up, right click on the file and select Don t back this up. Click on the Carbonite lock on the system tray to open the Carbonite InfoCenter. The InfoCenter displays backup status and allows users to set options, restore files, and contact customer support.
