Oslo, Norway KSLA, The Academy Award 2005: For a life time of pedagogical ingenuity that has inspired future landscape architects to achieve personal maturity and independence in their approach to the creation of gardens as a great art. Her Royal Highness the Crown Princess Victoria presented the award on January 28 th 2006 in Stockholm. Recognition Most of the design and planning projects listed above have been widely published both nationally and internationally. The Byker Redevelopment in Newcastle upon Tyne, England (2 500 dwellings), regarded as a pioneering social housing development of international importance and influence, continues to be an object for research and publicity. The recent protective listing (grade 2) of Byker as an area of historic and social importance, has added much to the debate on the balance between the dynamics of landscape, preservation and conservation. The Skarpnäck housing development by Arken Architects in Stockholm became internationally known for its respect for human scale with emphasis on children s environment, its rich variety of building materials and vegetation. At SLU Alnarp there are plans to form a research project on Landscape Management renewal and preservation using Byker and Skarpnäck as main study areas. The Hansta Planning and Bollmora Landscape Survey projects in Stockholm have both been fundamental in ensuring that the landscape is regarded as a basis for future planning of the Stockholm region and as such they have often been referred to in the ongoing planning work. The School of Architecture in Hull, England, was during the 1970s and early 1980s given a completely new and unorthodox structure both administratively and pedagogically. Strong emphasis was put on the individual student s development and on close co-operation between students and staff. The school was regarded as the most progressive School of Architecture in Britain (Architectural Journal). It attracted a large number of talented students from different countries, received a great deal of positive publicity and influenced architectural education in general. Running Workshops in different countries has provided me with frequent opportunities to develop and test experimental education with students from very different backgrounds. One of the workshops was my Floating School for students of Architecture and Landscape Architecture onboard barges on English canals. This and the other workshops were widely published especially in educational magazines. Publications - Mina rum (My rooms). Arkitektur 2/1989. Sweden 5

Great Britain Collaboration There is a strong connection between my Design Courses and the world outside the University both as a pedagogical idea and as a subject for study. This emphasis on the practical application of design has resulted in a large network of local councils, businesses and different organisations. in the design courses they take on the role as clients and offer students the possibility to take part in actual projects. This network has also enabled me to become involved in many non-academic activities such as: - Jury member in several Architectural competitions e.g.: The New Museum of Modern Art,. The revitalised Waterfront at Eriksberg Shipyard, Gothenburg, Sweden. - Member of the Environment and Aesthetics Advisory Group for the Swedish Road Authorities. 6
