Central Alabama Community College Frequently Asked Questions 1. Can I attend CACC without a high school diploma or GED? All degree seeking candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED. Individuals seeking admission to courses not creditable toward a degree must be at least 17 years of age and has not enrolled in secondary education for at least one calendar year (or upon the recommendation of the local superintendent), has specifically documented ability-to-benefit, and meet the required compass score in reading, writing, and pre-algebra. 2. What are the steps for getting into college? Complete an application for admission Complete the required Tuberculosis (TB) Questionnaire and return to the Admission s Office Submit a valid copy of your photo ID to the Admission s Office Take the COMPASS Placement Test (If you took the ACT and scored a minimum score of 20 in the individual areas of Math, Reading and English, you are exempt from taking the Compass Placement Test.) Forward an official copy of your high school transcript, GED, or college transcripts (If you have attended college before, you must submit a copy of your college transcripts from all colleges attended.) Go to CACC s webpage and complete the FAFSA on-line if you are seeking tuition assistance or contact the Financial Aid Office if you need additional information regarding tuition assistance and/or institutional scholarships. 3. How much is the application fee? CACC does not charge an application fee. 4. Is the ACT/SAT test required for acceptance to CACC? No 5. What type of degree can I obtain at CACC? Associates in Science Degree Associates in Applied Science Degree Associates in Occupational Technology Degree Certificate Short-term Certificate 6. Is CACC an accredited school? Yes, the college is accredited by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. CACC s Associate Degree Nursing program is accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Commission. Please see the college catalog for other accreditations held by the institution. 7. What scholarships are available to students? Academic scholarships, ambassador scholarships, athletic scholarships, performing arts scholarships, and technical scholarships are available to students. Other forms of financial assistance are listed in the college catalog. 8. Is campus housing available? CACC does not have campus housing. However, apartments are located near the college.

9. Can I obtain my degree online? At this time, the college does not offer a complete online degree program. We do offer certain courses online. 10. How will I know if my classes are transferrable to another college? Academic advisors are available to assist students with planning their schedules. Students can schedule an appointment to meet with an advisor to discuss the required curriculum for any major. The college utilizes the Statewide Articulation Reporting System (STARS) to assist students in identifying transferrable courses which are required for their chosen major. A STARS guide will be provided to all first time freshmen during orientation, which serves as their curriculum guide while enrolled at CACC. Students may print a STARS Guide by visiting the college s website at www.cacc.edu and clicking on STARS link on the webpage. 11. Can I receive tutoring? Tutoring is available through the Student Support Services program for those individuals who qualify. Please contact the Student Support Services Office at (256) 378-2037 for additional information. 12. Will I receive an email address? Yes, all students will be assigned a CACC email address while enrolled at the college. Students are encouraged to check their email account daily for announcements and financial aid information. 13. Can I register on the web? Only currently enrolled students are allowed to register via MyCACC on the College website. Dually Enrolled High School, transient, and first-time transfer students cannot register via MyCACC web registration. They must register for classes in the Student Services Office. 14. Am I required to attend orientation? All first-time entering students (freshmen, Dual Enrollment, transfer, and transient) are required to attend a Pre-College Orientation (PCO) Session. Students are scheduled by the Admissions Office to attend pre-college orientation. 15. Can I enroll in classes at any CACC campus site? Yes 16. What is the cost to attend CACC? In-state tuition is $142 per semester hour and out-of state tuition is $247 per semester hour. 17. What is a credit hour? A credit hour is the standard unit used for measuring college credit. 18. What is STARS? STARS is the Statewide Articulation Reporting System designed to inform students who attend Alabama community colleges about degree requirements, course equivalents, and other transfer information pertaining to specific majors at each public four year institution. Students may print a

STARS Guide by visiting the college s website at www.cacc.edu and clicking on STARS link on the webpage. If you plan to transfer to a private institution, please contact that institution for transfer information. 19. How many credit hours can I transfer to a university from CACC? Generally only a maximum of 60 to 64 semester credit hours will transfer to a four-year university. Please check with the college where you plan to transfer. 20. What types of extra-curricular activities are available at the college? CACC has several clubs and organizations available to students. The names and descriptions of each student organization can be found in the college catalog. 21. What athletic programs are available at CACC? The college has golf, men s baseball, and women s softball. 22. Who do I need to contact to obtain accommodations for my disability? Central Alabama Community College is committed to making its programs and services accessible to qualified students who have disabilities. The ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) Coordinator is available to assist students with their requests for reasonable accommodations. Students requesting accommodations for a disability must provide documentation which supports their request. In most cases, the documentation can be no older than three years. How will I receive my grades at the end of each semester? Grade reports must be retrieved online through MyCACC on the CACC website. Students must use their assigned Banner ID or C number and Password to access their grades. Grades are not mailed or given out over the telephone. If you do not have access to the internet, you may go to the Student Services Office and request a copy of your transcript. 24. How many classes should I take to be a full time student? The minimum course load required to be classified as a full-time student is 12 semester hours, regardless of the term of enrollment. 25. Does CACC offer student loans? Yes, more detailed information can be obtained from the Financial Aid Office or visit the college s website at www.cacc.edu and click on the Financial Aid Link. 26. Where do I get my Banner Identification (ID) number? Students can go to the Administration Building on the Alexander City Campus, Childersburg Campus, or the Talladega Center to obtain their Banner ID number and Password. The student must present a valid photo ID in order to obtain their Banner ID number and password.

27. Can I take classes at CACC while I am in high school? Yes. For information on enrolling in Dual Enrollment and/or Accelerated High School courses, please contact the Admissions Office at (256) 215-4415 or visit the college s webpage and click on the Catalog link to view the information on-line. 28. When will the CACC class schedule be available? The class schedule is usually posted on-line on the college s webpage at least two weeks prior to the scheduled registration period each term. 29. How do I change my major, address or telephone number that is on file at the college? In order to change your personal information or major, you must go to the Admission s Office on any CACC campus and complete a Change Form. 30. How can I get my CACC college transcript sent to another school? You can go to the Student Services Office and request that a copy of your transcript be mailed to another college. Or, you can download a copy of the Transcript Request Form from our webpage. Simply click on the Student Section link, download a copy of the form, fill it out completely and fax it to the Registrar s Office. This form must be accompanied by a valid copy of your photo ID. The Registrar s Office will mail or fax a copy of your transcript. 31. Will a grade of D transfer? You should contact your transfer institution and obtain information on their policy regarding the transfer of a grade of D. 32. How do I check my grades at the end of the term? You should go to the college s webpage and use the MyCACC System to access your grades. You must have your Banner ID and Password to access the site. Grades are not posted until after the final exam period has ended. Grades are not given out over the phone or mailed. Only final grades are reported on MyCACC. Mid-term grades are not reported on the system. 33. I am going to be a freshman at CACC this year. Can I take internet classes? Yes, all CACC students can take internet classes. 34. What should I do if I can t continue to attend class? If you can no longer attend class, you should formally withdraw from the class by completing a withdrawal form during the specified withdrawal period. Partial or Total Withdrawal Forms can be obtained from the Student Services Office. Students cannot withdraw from or drop a course via MyCACC after the registration period had ended. Students must go to the Student Services Office to withdraw or drop a course after the registration period has ended. 35. Does CACC have an attendance policy? Yes. Students are expected to attend the classes for which he/she has registered. The Attendance Policy can be found in the CACC Student Handbook in the college catalog. 36. Where do I buy my books?

Books can be purchased at the Bookstore. Please visit the CACC Bookstores' website at http://www.caccbookstore.com for store hours, textbook information and to order books online. 37. How do I get a parking permit or decal? All students that drive a vehicle and are enrolled at the College are required to have a parking decal. Students enrolled at the college should go to the college s webpage, click on Student Section and download a copy of the Vehicle Request Form. Students should complete the form and take it to the Library on either campus. Students must also present a valid copy of their driver s license, current copy of their class schedule, and vehicle registration information to obtain a parking decal. Students attending the Talladega Center should go to the main office in the Administration Building. 38. When is graduation ceremony held at CACC? Graduation is held once per year at the end of the Spring Semester in the month of May. The ceremony is held on the Alexander City Campus in the Betty Carol Graham Technology Center. 39. Who do I need to see to apply for graduation? If you are going to graduate from CACC, you will need to contact the Registrar s Office and apply for graduation. Ms. Janice Stephens is the Registrar and she is available to assist you with applying for graduation. Her telephone number is (256) 378-2003. On the Alexander City Campus, contact Mrs. Jane Boos, Transcript Evaluator at (256) 215-4368. 40. How can I get a CACC Catalog? The College Catalog is available on-line on the CACC webpage. To download a copy of the catalog from the CACC webpage, simply click on the Catalog link on the left side of the page. 41. When do I need to apply for a CACC scholarship or reapply for my FAFSA/Pell Grant? Please contact the Financial Aid Department if you have questions about applying for assistance or click on the Financial Aid link on the college s webpage. 42. What classes do I need to take for my major? All degree and certificate requirements for programs offered at CACC are listed in the college catalog. Students planning to transfer to a public, four-year institution within the state of Alabama should print a STARS Transfer Guide and follow the curriculum listed therein. 43. How can I learn about the college s Grade Challenge Policy and Grievance Policies? All of CACC s policies are listed in the college catalog. 44. What is a Hybrid course? A Hybrid courses blend face-to-face tradition classroom instruction with an online learning environment. The degree to which a hybrid course utilizes face-to-face traditional classroom instruction and an online learning environment varies depending on the course. This combination of instructional delivery method results in a significant portion of the course learning being offered online reducing the amount of classroom seat time. 45. Who do I contact regarding questions about the Nursing Programs at CACC? You should contact an advisor or the School of Nursing at (256) 378-2045.
