Highland High School Automotive Technology Disclosure Packet Dear Highland school patron This packet is being sent home to you so that you man have a better understand of the program procedures, Rules, and regulations of the Automotive Technology classes at highland high school. Please read each page and discuss each with your son or daughter. Note the specific pages that require a signature by you and/or your son or daughter. Please sign and return them to me. I feel that one major problem in education today is a lack of communication between the school and home. Highland High Auto shop Work Waiver All work done in this shop is performed by students for instructional purposes. The work is generally supervised by the instructor and reasonable efforts are made to ensure satisfactory workmanship, but no work is guaranteed. All diagnostic tests are made by students at the vehicle owner s risk. We assume no responsibility for damage caused by vandalism, fire, theft, accident or other unforeseen circumstance or casualty. Safety Pledge Form Read the safety pledge form and complete by filling in the blanks. Return to instructor by the end of next week., who is enrolled in vocational Auto Technology class, will as a part of the shop experience operate machines, providing that his/her parents or guardian gives permission. It is understood that each student will be given proper instruction both in the use of the equipment and in correct safety procedures, before being allowed to operate it alone. We therefore ask that the students subscribe to the following safety pledge. 1. I PROMIES TO FOLLOW ALL SAFETY RULES FOR THE SHOP 2. I PROMISE NEVER TO USE A MACHINE WITHOUT FIRST HAVING PERMISSION FROM THE INSTRUCTOR 3. I WILL NOT ASK PERMISSION TO USE A PARTICULAR MACHINE UNLESS I HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED IN ITS USE AND ON ITS SAFTEY PROCEDURES. 4. I WILL REPORT ANY ACCIDENT OR INJUSRY TO THE TEACHER IMMEDIATELY 5. I WILL NOT HORSEPLAY IN THE SHOP. HIGHLAND HIGH AUTO SHOP OPEN DISCLOSURE STATEMENT COURSE TITLE: AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOTY AND SMALL ENGINES COURSE DESCRIPTION: THIS COUSE ALLOWS THE STUDENT TO CONTINUE LEARING AND DEVELPIING THE SKILLS NEEDED TO PERORM AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENAMCE AND SERVICE. MOST AREAS OF AUTOMOTIVE REPAIRS CAN BE DONE IN THIS COURSE. INDIVIDUALIZED INSTRUCTION, WITH HANDS OF EXPERIENCE WILL BE EMPHASIZED. Course Objectives: STUDENTS WILL CONTINUE TO DEVELOP A WORKING KNOWLEDGE OF AUTOMOTIVE SHOP SAFETY, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT, AND WILL FURTHER THEIR SKILL IN AUTOMOTIVE DIAGNOSIS, PREVENTIVE MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE. COURSE COST: THERE IS A LAB FEE FOR MISC SHOP SUPPLIES. IF A STUDENT NEEDS TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE, WORN OUT, OR OLD PART ON HIS/HER AUTOMOTIVE PROJECTS, THESE PARTS OR SUPPLIES WILL BE PAYED FOR BY THE STUDENT OR OWNER OF THE VEHICLE. (PARTS OR SUPPLIES MAY BE PURCHASED AT SOME OF OUR LOCAL AUTOMOTIVE PARTS STORES AT A DISCOUNTED RATE). NUTS BOLTS AND OTHER SMALL ITEMS CAN BE PURCHASED FROM THE SHOP. STUDENTS MUST PURCHASE SAFETY GLASSES OR GOGGLES THAT ARE REQUIRED BY STATE LAW.

STUDENT REQUIRMENETS: 1. EACH STUDENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO HAVE A LOOSELEAF FOLDER FOR HANDOUT MATERIALS. 2. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO BE PREPAIRED WITH APPROPRIATE MATERIALS; PENCIL/PEN, AND BOOKS WHEN IN CLASS. THE BOOKS WILL NEVER LEAVE THE CLASROOM. 3. SHOP CLASSES ARE PARTICIPATION TYPE CLASSES (YOU CAN NOT DO THE WORK IF YOU ARE NOT IN CLASS). 4. STUDENTS ARE RESPONISBLE FOR DAILY ASSIGNMENTS, LAB ASSIGNMANETS, TEST, JOURNALS AND HOMWORK IN ORDER TO RECEIVE A GRADE. 5. STUDENTS WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE TOOLS THEY CHECK OUT FROM THE TOOL ROOM. LOST TOOLS WILL BE PAYED FOR OR REPLACED BY THAT STUDENT. 6. STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO SHOW SAFE WORK HABITS, COOPERATIVE ATTITUDES AND GOOD HOUSEKEEPING IN THE CLASSROOM AND SHOP. 7. STUDENTS MUST BE PREPAIRED TO GET DIRTY! PROTECTIVE CLOTHING AND CLOSED TOED SHOES ARE MANDATORY FOR ALL SHOP WORK. 8. NO STUDENT WILL BE ALLOWED TO WORK IN THE SHOP WITHOUT SAFTEY GALSSES OR GOGGLES. CORSE REQUIRMENTS: LETTER GRADES WILL BE DETERMINDED APPROXIMATLY BY THE FOLLOWING; 50% FOR LAB/SHOP ASSIGNMENTS AND WORK, 30% TEST AND QUIZ S, 20% FOR ATTENDANCE. STUDENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED TO HAVE THEIR OWN CARS TO BE ENROLLED IN THIS CLASS, BUT IT WOULD BE BETTER IF THEY HAD OR COULD GET THE USE OF ONE. (THE SCHOOL HAS SOME CARS FOR STUDENTS TO WORK ON). ALL SCHOOL STANDARDS AND POLICIES CONCERNING ATTENDANCE, CREDIT, MAKEUP WORK, DRUGS, ALCOHOL, ETC. WILL BE FOLLOWED.
