Office365 at Triton College Logging in to Office365 The new log in page for Triton email is http://outlook.com/triton.edu At that page, enter your username in this format: firstnamelastname@triton.edu and enter the same password you use to access the Mytriton portal, Colleague, or your individual desktop. Both the password and your username will be different from the old login credentials you used to access Pronto or Outlook. Viewing Your E mail The default mail view will look something like this, with your mail folders to the left, e mail list next to that, and the preview pane on the right. The viewer is customizable and can be changed fairly easily.
The folder view can be collapsed or expanded by clicking on the double arrow << or >> immediately under the new mail button. The width of the preview pane may be changed by left clicking on the border between the email list and the preview pane, then dragging the border to the desired location. With preview pane maximized With email list maximized To open an individual email, simply double click on the e mail in the e mail list and a separate window will open with your e mail message in its own reading pane which can be expanded to full screen or resized like any other window:
Composing New E mail To compose a new e mail, click either of the new mail composition buttons or or use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + N to open the composition window. The new mail composition pane will appear to the right of the e mail list (or above the e mail list if you have reading pane on the bottom.) In the To: field, type the e mail address of the intended recipient(s) of your e mail or click the plus + on the right to bring up your contact list. If you wish to add a bcc: or add an importance tag or other message options, click the small ellipsis icon. Office365 places basic text editing tools at the top of the composition pane. These settings are for the current message only. To change these settings permanently, go to the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window, select Options, and then from the options pane, select Settings. There you will find options for changing your email signature, e mail receipt options, conversation options as well as setting the default values for fonts, size and color options for all messages. Adding Contacts There are several ways to add contacts to your Office365. You can add an individual contact manually by clicking on the People tab at the top of the page and clicking on the button, and then enter the contact information for the person. You may also add a new person by hovering over the blue lettering for the contact s name and clicking on the person icon. If the person has a Triton Office365 account, their details will already be populated.
You can also import contacts from an existing Outlook contact file. To export contacts from Outlook 2010 1. Open Outlook 2010. 2. Click File > Open > Import. 3. Click Export to a file and click Next. 4. Select Comma Separated Values (DOS), and then click Next. 5. Select the Contacts folder, and then click Next. If there's more than one contacts folder, select the one you want to export. 6. Click Browse to choose where to save the file and to name it. 7. Click Next. 8. In the next window, click Map Custom Fields to customize how your contacts are exported. 9. Click Finish. Organizing your E mail Active messages are highlighted in the e mail list pane. To delete an individual message, click on the red X to the right of the message details. The item will then be placed in the deleted items folder. You may also drag and drop any message to any folder in the mail folder pane. Just like with regular Outlook, you can select multiple messages by holding down the Ctrl key plus selected messages or hold the Shift key for the first and last items in a series which you wish to select. The grouped messages may then be moved to a folder, or you may Right Click + Delete to delete multiple messages.
Creating Folders and Subfolders To create a folder at any level in the e mail folder list, select the parent folder and Right Click and select create new folder. Subfolders are slightly indented from their parent folders. There is a small triangle to the right of folders with subfolders. To expand or contract the subfolder list, simply click on that triangle. To make any existing folder a subfolder, simply drag that folder onto another folder label. To elevate a subfolder to another level, drag the subfolder at least one level higher and drop on a parent (or grandparent) label. Changing Display Settings The viewing area can be changed by clicking on the gear icon in the upper right corner of the window. Select display settings to change the look of Office365 to suit your needs. In the message list settings, you may choose to have the sender or subject on top and well as hide (or reveal) preview text from the message in the e mail list pane.
The reading pane settings allow you to select if and where the preview pane is displayed relative to the folder and e mail list panes. Remember to check the Apply to all folders box if you want this setting to apply to all folders. Otherwise, only the current folder will be viewed in the way you select. Conversations The Conversations setting allows you to control the organization of the conversation list. Office365 keeps track of replies and forwards of the same e mail chain or conversation and keeps them together as a group. You can hide deleted messages from the chain as well as arrange the chronologic order of the conversation.
