COLLIN COLLEGE Course Syllabus COURSE NUMBER: ITMT 1370 XS7 COURSE TITLE: IMPLEMENTING AND SUPPORTING MICROSOFT WINDOWS 7 PROFESSIONAL COURSE DESCRIPTION: Addresses the implementation and desktop support needs of customers that are planning to deploy and support Microsoft Windows 7 Professional in a variety of stand- alone and network operating system environments. In-depth, hands-on training for Information Technology (IT) professionals responsible for the planning, implementation, management, and support of Windows 7 Professional. This course is intended for anyone who wants to learn how to install, configure, administer, and support the primary services in the Microsoft Windows 7 Professional operating system, as well as for those individuals seeking Microsoft certification. The course begins by examining basic system administration procedures and networking. Subsequent chapters are devoted to the creation and management of Windows 7 user and group accounts, to the sharing of system resources, and to the installation and setup of networking components. Three quizzes will be given at the end of each third of the text and a comprehensive final exam will be given at the end of the course.

METHOD OF EVALUATION: Final grades are determined by a weighted average of midterm and final examinations, quizzes, laboratory assignments, homework assignments, class participation, and attendance. Your final grade in this course will be based on the following: Labs/Participation/Attendance/Homework 20% Quizzes 30% Research Paper 20% Final Exam 30% Students who pass Microsoft Certification Exam 70-680 before the Final Exam is due will be given a full 100% credit toward their final exam score for having passed this exam. PASSING THE MICROSOFT EXAM DOES NOT GUARANTEE AN A GRADE FOR THE COURSE Tests must be taken at the designated times. Only excused absences will be given the opportunity to apply another test grade to replace a missed test grade and this is subject to instructor s discretion. Research Paper Following instructions is an important part towards the success of your project. You will be assigned a research topic in class. This paper/presentation will be on one of the white papers from the student CD or an instructor approved white paper from another source. You must pick your topic and are then expected to create a 4-5 pages, double spaced report on the topic using Arial 12 pt. font. After you numerical grade has been calculated, your letter grade will be determined as follows: A 90-100% of the total percentage points possible B 80-89% of the total percentage points possible C 70-79% of the total percentage points possible D 60-69% of the total percentage points possible F less than 60% of the total percentage points possible Tentative Class Schedule: The following tentative schedule is based upon class needs.
