In addition, an RS-22 to RS-485 converter must be placed between the Mux and the computer s RS-22 port. At the heart of HIS is the Mux. It acts as a gateway device, routing communications between the maintenance workstation PC and the HART field devices. Each multiplexer provides communication to 2 HART devices. A network is built by multidropping multiplexers; up to multiplexers can be connected to support a single network with a maximum of 992 field instruments per communication port on your PC, making it possible to connect virtually any number of devices to a single AMS Device Manager system. Our Mux provides two essential benefits: small size and low cost per point. The small footprint is especially important for retrofit installations where cabinet space is costly and often unavailable. For new installations, we offer a wide range of termination panels, that can be used instead of the DCS I/O panels, where the multiplexer can be mounted directly. 2 Channel Termination Panels DCS Specific The Pepperl+Fuchs Elcon panels replace the termination boards provided by the DCS vendor, and provide a very simple and cost-effective solution for online HART communications. The HART information is extracted without interfering with the 4-20 ma signals used by DCS or PLC. For proprietary DCS or PLC termination panels, the most cost-effective and integrated approach is to use a HIS termination panel as the field wiring termination assembly. This integrated concept reduces wiring and frees valuable control room space. The HIS panel provides field termination and houses the Mux and filters (if required), to allow direct connection to the I/O cards using standard DCS vendor cable sets. External Interface Solutions EXTERNAL INTERFACE SOLUTIS External Interface Panels - Parallel Connection Pepperl+Fuchs Elcon HART panels are designed to complement the I/O termination panels and provide access to all HART information. They provide a very clean, elegant and robust solution for on-line HART communications. HART information is extracted without interfering with the 4-20 ma signal used by DCS or PLC systems. Our panels can incorporate redundancy, filtering and diagnostic circuitry, and connect directly via cable to the DCS I/O termination panels. It acts as a gateway between an AMS Device Manager workstation and the field instrumentation. Each Mux is networked simply by connecting the high-speed RS-485 output in multidrop configuration. High Specification Front End Design Full three-port isolation is included and each input channel has dual-capacitor isolation for freedom of loop connection. Two decoupling capacitors are provided, one for each signal connection. Both (+) Ve (positive) & (-) Ve (negative) signal wires are, therefore, decoupled from DC signal. Only the high-frequency digital HART protocol signal passes through to the internal multiplexer circuitry. Failure of any one capacitor from either a short circuit or open circuit means that availability of 4-20 ma control signal will not be affected. Ch.
