The access to the patient sensitive emergency care data is secured by a) Sign on procedures b) security logs c) Oracle9 database sophisticated procedures d) firewalls and encryptions. It is recommended that you use your mother s maiden name as your password: because it is easy to remember and nobody knows it but you.
The FLORA*iHIS introduction screen offers general information for the emergency staff. The left hand section, FLORA*iHIS Explorer presents an easy pathway through the applications.
The aim of the New Patient Registration form is to capture demographic patient data. Some information (the list of items on the right hand side) is retrieved from the stored codes by a click on the LOV (list of value) icon [ ]. The main principle of our system is that patient information should be entered only once and used throughout the whole patient treatment, during the patient s visit. The left hand window displays, at your request (query), all patient stored in your emergency master patient index.
Previously registered (established) patient s name search of the emergency master patient index (MPI) is an easy task, all it requires is the entering 3 letters of the patient s last name.
Another method is even simpler: just scrolling down the list of patient charts. For larger emergency units FLORA*iHIS offers the utilization of the patient smart (chip) cards, widely used in Europe. There are three command buttons in the right hand bottom corner: 1) To record entered data, 2) To print patient wrist ID band data and 3) To scan the patient s smart card (if applicable).
We can enter one or more patient s emergency contacts. The lower block of the form displays a list of all contacts.
This is an example of the patient s health care insurance. The contents of the form could be flexibly modified in order to meet specific needs of each country, state or province.
After the patient is registered or identified, his/her conditions are carefully assessed and registered by an experienced triage (priority of treatment) nurse. The Priority of the patient s treatment is the most important information. These codes would be adjusted to cover the established triage procedures.
This form displays all services rendered to the patient during his/her emergency treatment. The database information is linked with the currently utilized established billing procedures.
The PATIENT TREATMENT & DISPOSITION form is the hub of the FLORA*iHIS system. The form consists of three sections: 1) A Patient Follow up Billboard, 2) The Patient Details and 3) Patient Treatment Status. Note: The information about all patients and their treatment progress could be also presented in an electronic treatment progress spreadsheet.
FLORA*iHIS provides two options for all orders: 1) hard copy printout 2) electronic format. This Rush Lab Tests Requisition form demonstrates how efficient is the ordering process: Click the check box All other information such as patient chart, patient name, date and time of the order, order test, ordering physician, etc. are included automatically and correctly. The result value of the test are either entered manually or directly from a computerized laboratory.
The order of a rush x-ray or D.I. Examination is again quite simple: a click on the [ ] icon displays a list of examinations available to be ordered. The arrival of the exam results is announced by a tick off sign in the Result Status field.
A surgery rush order provides the operating room booking staff with all critical patient s information collected during the patient s triage. If some data are missing because of patient s arrival situation, the data could be entered at this time. The performed procedures are listed in the lower right hand section of the form.
As an option, the patient s physician can prescribe and order medication(s) from an online outpatient or community pharmacy.
Should the patient be hospitalized, the registration data collected at the emergency registration desk could be transferred to the hospital admission office or if the hospital runs a computerized bed inventory, the emergency staff would be able to allocate an available bed and room is the desired ward/nursing unit.
Most of the FLORA* i HIS forms use a icon [ ] for the display of a specified pull down list of codes. The coding schemes are listed in the left hand section called Master Code Schedule, starting with the Triage and ending with list of diagnostic imaging exams and with the most frequently prescribed drugs (e.g., Hospital Formulary). Note the online user s guide displayed whenever the user rests the mouse pointer on any form s item.
FLORA*iHIS runs the latest version of the Oracle9i front end Forms9i. This new Internet version is very friendly and user oriented. Systems messages, usually displayed only on the bottom bar (message bar) are now displayed as a stick on electronic paper pad.
This chart portrays the concept of the FLORA*iHIS data flow. All terminals in the EMERGENCY are protected by the client side firewall. The HTTP/HTTPS (hypertext transfer protocol/secure) is used for the clients communication with the HTTP Listener, also protected by a firewall. The Listener then contacts the Servlet engine, then the FLORA*iHIS forms runtime connected to the Oracle9i database. The data from the Oracle9i database is then returned to the EMERGENCY end-users following the reverse path in a matter of seconds (example: our present use of the Internet).
