The air is cooled by the evaporator and then blown out through the front vents while the hot air is expelled through a rear hose. This hose has a shaped ended fitting to enable it to be positioned through a slightly opened window, ceiling void, door or even a cat-flap. Split type units A split system is used when access to the exterior of a building is difficult. There are two elements to a split system connected by a flexible pipe.
